Skype study group for August/September MCAT?

For those of us who are taking the mcat this late august, is there currently any skype group? I've looked around and there doesn't seem to be any skype groups that are currently going on.

I'm using Kaplan, EK, and BR to prep for my early Sept MCAT and I thought it'll be nice to form a study group. Would anybody be interested or is there anything like this going on right now?

Since some are taking the August MCAT, we're looking to finish the content part of SN2ed's schedule before the beginning of August which means we'll be doing around 2 BR chapters a day and then spend 1-2 hours 4-5 times a week to discuss. We'll make a more detailed calendar soon. In the google chats, we'll basically have a brief overiew of each concept and then discuss the questions we got wrong.

Our first meeting is tomorrow 7/2 4pm PST (7pm PST). If you'd like to join, please read BR Physics chapter 1 and BR GenChem chapter 1 and do the first 1/3 of the passages.

For now, keep checking back in this thread for the next following meeting info.

Would anyone be interested in leading the study group? I'm currently a bit swamped in a bunch of activities and won't be able to dedicate very much time in organizing stuff. If you're interested, shoot me and GeorgiadisMD a PM and also post in the google groups page. We'll basically need your help organizing the meeting times and letting us know about the passages to review.

I'm going to take it in early September. So I'll be interested in any form of studying. Does anyone know if there are MCAT writing groups online?

Hey guys,

Does anyone here know how to start a skype group? I'm not very familiar with skype in general. I've tried googling around but failed to find instructions for the new skype version.

For this group, we could perhaps all follow a modified schedule of the SN2ed and in the chat sessions we can just talk about what we don't get? There was this old skype group a while back that was pretty successful and basically did something similar. Where is everybody at in terms of content review?

i was planning to start my study schedule tmrw, July 1st, starting with Physics. So I haven't started my content review yet.

Yep, I also found that but I think the biggest problem with that is that it only creates a temporary group. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like we'll have to keep creating the group for each study study session which may be kind of tough.

Has anyone else ever created a google+ group before? I'm sure almost everyone has gmail account so that shouldn't be too hard. In the meantime, I'll look into this. If other people already know how to create a google+ group and use it for video/voice chat, please create the group and let us know here.

I think google+ would be a great idea! It's so intuitive and easily maintained, especially since a lot of people use gmail anyway. As far as I am aware of the system, google+ group is only visible to the individual who is making it. So if we share our gmail addresses, each of us would have to add the addresses to their own group, but we can easily share a calendar via gmail account and that way, we will know when to video chat.

Sounds like a great idea. Anyone willing to make the group and the calendar? I will PM my email to anyone who will do it since I dont really know how.

Please PM me w/ your e-mail address and your first name. I will go ahead and make a calendar for the group. And temporarily set the first video chat as 7/1 7PM. Everyone's email that I receive will be added on the calendar and y'all will all have access to move it around. How does that sound?

Does anyone have any suggestions for the study schedule? Since people might be taking the mid August exam, perhaps we could follow an accelerated SN2ed schedule that ends early August?

How are you guys studying irl? I decided to forgo classes after hearing from several people that they aren't worth their exorbitant prices, but I can't focus at home so I've been hanging around one of the local starbucks.

I'll probably be there tonight too, and I'd love to join you guys to see where I'm at... But I'm not sure how I'd feel about talking to my computer in the middle of a bunch of strangers haha.

Alright. I have added everyone that sent me a PM to both the calendar and the google+. You should receive at least one notification e-mail that states that you have been added. Thus far, there are 7 people in my MCAT 'circle'. I will see you guys later!

We would love to have you if you can make it. I am currently taking a Kaplan MCAT class and I should say that you made the right decision by not taking a prep course. Its not that helpful. Whats most useful about it is the amount of practice material they provide.

Yes! PM me. And I will add you on the calendar and the google+. I'm a girl that happens to be a military/fighter/bodybuilder snob. It happens to be one of my own political beliefs and if you don't share same views as I do, that is fine with me. I just want to study.. And I love to use anonymity as my best interests and play gender neutrality and sometimes mess with confused souls. Hence, Rocky is my man :laugh:
We have our first meeting today (July 1st) at 7PM EST. I don't believe it would be a long one at all. We can briefly introduce each other and talk about how often we should have the meetings and what we should go over and such. See you in few!

Hahaha sounds good. Though I've been using gmail, I have absolutely no clue how to navigate this google+ thingy. Where will our chat room be and how can all of us see each other? Do we have to add each other to a circle or something?

I believe if you have a gmail, than you automatically have a G+ profile. So go ahead and activate it if its not and add keepmovingfwd to your circle. You can also click on the link that says "start a hangout" and install the plugin and get the system set up.

I believe the way this has to work is that keepmovingfwd has to invite us all to the "hangout" after she starts it since she is the only one with all of our emails. Once she does, all we have to do is accept.

Keep in mind that I have never used the hangout system before.

Sorry If I came across as snapping at you. I was only stating that the meeting took place in Eastern Time Zone. I think I noted in an earlier post about how to use G+ for this use. If you still have questions please feel free to PM me. If you want to try it out once before the next meeting, you could send me you gmail and we could try to get it to work right now.
