I'm wondering how you guys plan to arrange your sleep patterns after getting jobs. I've seen some pharmacists do double shifts and the graveyard shift regularly in addition to their regular day shifts. How do you guys plan to train yourselves to adapt to this sleep pattern?

Well...
1.) there are usually rules (at least in my state) saying a pharmacist can't work past 12 hours with the usual disclaimers.
2.) some places are hella skimpy with overtime
3.) it's not in a pharmacy's best interest to have an rph sleep deprived. it's not like an MD residency...

Basically, you would only do these things if you wanted to make money/be a workaholic...and that's assuming your boss lets you, due to the above.

I've done 70-80 hour weeks (as an intern), or weeks where I do evenings and graveyards. For me, I can't go to sleep early, so I just progressively stay up later and later, i.e. if i'm going from evening to graveyard, the night before i stay up late so that I end up going to sleep at 3-4 AM. once i'm at graveyard i'm awake enough to function since i'm used to being up around then. Sometimes I do wonder if modafinil would help...

If you work at a hospital you could always just not go home and sleep there. Hallways, oncology infusion clinics, conference rooms, OR lounge...just not in the ED.

Simple - don't do doubles, dont have less than 10 hours between shifts & don't work one on & one off.

As Pat Nixon used to say - just say no...

Wow, I'm pretty sure it was Nancy Reagan.....

My bad! I get those two lovely republican ladies mixed up. Someone did just say no - not those who the phrase was directed to, but - yes....you are correct - Nancy Regan.

How could I forget her? Her husband left such an impression on my state that we are still living with!!!!!:scared::scared:😱
