I apologize but I cannot find an answer to this question by searching previous threads.

My situation: I already have one SLOR and two letters from medicine attendings that I've worked with. I recently switched my schedule around and will be taking a pediatric EM rotation in October and then an EM away rotation in Oct/Nov. I will hopefully be getting another SLOR from that away rotation. I already assigned my SLOR and one medicine letter to all my programs. For a few programs I assigned my second medicine letter as well, making three total.

Should I get a SLOR from my peds EM rotation?

If I get that SLOR, I will have three total. Is there a way to withdraw letters that I've already submitted from my medicine attendings so that I won't submit too many letters?

I would definitely get the SLOR if they're EM faculty trained in peds, because that's early enough in the year that if you don't, people are going to wonder why. A lot of programs will let you send four letters total anyway.

If they're peds faculty who did an EM fellowship, I don't know how that works in terms of whether you can ask them for SLORs, so I'll defer to those more in the know.

When I applied, I was told that you can't have too many SLORs. I had three also. Yes, you can withdraw letters and substitute them. But if the program has already downloaded your file, they will already have the old letters even if you withdraw one and substitute it with another.

Since your last SLOR is going to come so late anyway (around late November, right?), the best thing to do might be to contact the programs at that time and ask if they'd like you to send the third SLOR as an update. I think a lot of your programs might have already made invite decisions by then anyway since they'll already have your MSPE and your other two SLORs.

Good luck!
