It was definitely because of the ASA in sunny San Franscisco. I just got back today and I saw the PD's and charimen of almost all of the major anesthesia programs. On top of that, there were more than a thousand foreign anesthesiologists in attendance from all over the world. If you couldn't be there, you missed a great meeting with the drug and equipment companies doling out a TON of free stuff and dinners at 4 and 5 star restaurants and hotels. Best one was the iFlow and Arrow dinner on the 51st floor of the Bank of America building: 5 star filet mignon, $300-$400 bottles of wine, a great if somewhat lengthy lecture, free laser pointers, and a free fireworks show out the north wall of windows overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Absolutely awesome.
