Slowdown of interview offers

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No interview in almost a week!

just a hunch but my brother who is an anesth resident said this week is the ASA meeting in sunny calif... so probably all directors are there...

I haven't heard from anybody either since last Monday🙁 Yikes!!!+pissed+

Its weird, it seems like most of the top programs are done giving out invites (except a few). Yeah, but I agree, there has been a slow-down over the last week. Hey thoinga thoing, that was a good post on the rads forum about Dr.Cuts and his mental status changes. I like reading their posts, they all talk like they're gods among men.

I got one this week. From Mayo Clinic

It was definitely because of the ASA in sunny San Franscisco. I just got back today and I saw the PD's and charimen of almost all of the major anesthesia programs. On top of that, there were more than a thousand foreign anesthesiologists in attendance from all over the world. If you couldn't be there, you missed a great meeting with the drug and equipment companies doling out a TON of free stuff and dinners at 4 and 5 star restaurants and hotels. Best one was the iFlow and Arrow dinner on the 51st floor of the Bank of America building: 5 star filet mignon, $300-$400 bottles of wine, a great if somewhat lengthy lecture, free laser pointers, and a free fireworks show out the north wall of windows overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Absolutely awesome.

Yup, I would say that the ASA conference had something to do with it. Also, it seems pretty typical from folks I knew in my applicant class & current applicants to get a cluster of interviews off the bat & then to have them trickle in over the next couple of months. I was still getting interview invites in December, but got none that I recall after Christmas...if you don't count Western Penn. They invited me early on, but only sent a single date/time. Of course, the one they offered did not work; so I requested another. After 1 additional single date offering that did not work, I politely declined any additional invites. I only considered them a safety program anyhow.
