I'm fortunate and grateful to be able to have a choice of two programs, I just didn't realize how difficult it would be to come to a decision.

I'm a CA res and will be OOS for both institutions. I do desire to match back into CA but it is not a must.

St. Louis University (SLU)
Pros:
-cheaper tuition by slightly, and also cheaper cost of living
-Smaller class size (1/2 of Wayne)
-better administration
-brand new university hospital for rotations
-True P/F with no rankings

Cons:
-traditional curriculum
-shadowed by WashU
-not a fan of STL

Wayne State
Pros:
-good clinical exposure
-recently changed to systems curriculum
-3 month dedicated step 1 (I'm not entirely sure about this)

Cons:
-weather
-poorly maintained administration
-huge class size (~300)
-most match into MI

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So I think most people from Wayne match into MI simply because it’s a public school and Michigan residents want to stay there, not because you can’t match outside.

Idk a lot about Wayne but it definitely has a lot more NIH funding which could be important if you are interested in matching a specialty where research is emphasized.

I’d still vote for SLU though. But I will say I do find it weird that everyone needlessly compares to WashU when talking about SLU. It’s just not relevant imo and this isn’t something that comes up in other cities like Chicago, Philly, and New York where you have tons of med schools all near each other. Just my 2 cents
