USMDs went from 97% last year to about 93%, not a huge drop but still a bit scary!

DOs now high 80s.

Sky isn’t falling but as a 2024-2025 cycle applicant, I’m scared!

Not high 80s, more like low to mid 80s for DOs. It went from 92% to 84% in 2 years. I said it last year that Neurology was getting slightly more competitive in general (even more for DOs), and no one believed it.

Anecdotally, record number of people in my class are applying into neuro this year. (10+ people, while historically it's been 2-4) I personally think neuro is a hidden gem in medicine with a wide range of choice of practice after training + good attending lifestyle as an outpatient neurologist. Also I see a lot of potential for growth in compensation in the coming decades. Not sure if my classmates happen to see the same thing.

I think this is a reflection of more exposure to the field online. If you get a bit more granular and look at the match rate of those who took both Step 1 and Step 2, it's in the 90s still. I think there are more people applying currently because they view the field as a better option than IM or FM and the misconception that you can get Neuro with practically nothing on your resume.
