Hello vw chichi!
What would you like to know about the program? I attended the program (SMEP). It was really great, but pretty intense!! You should check your site's website to see what to expect. PM me and I will try my best to answer your questions...CONGRATULATIONS!!

Hi! I did SMEP at Baylor College of Medicine. It was intense, but one of the best experiences I have ever had in my premed career. The program was intense, we had to learn and do a lot, but it will help you know more as to whether or not you want to be a doc. Good Luck!

Hi! I attended the program (MMEP '03) at Yale. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. I think each school's program is a little different, so not everyone's experience is going to be the same.

I did the SMEP program at case the summer of 2004. I have mixed feelings about the case program.
The negatives: If you are a first year student, the program will not be of much benefit to you. Most of the first years had not taken organic, physics, or any of the classes that we had to take, and they ended up feeling very lost. The ideal time to do the program is after your sophomore year because you will have taken most of the classes already so it will be a good review, and the MCAT practice would be very beneficial. During the prgram we had 3-4 shadowing experiences which varied depending on who you shadowed. Some experiences were good, others weren't. It was kind of annoying that we had to be at class by 8 am every day, and they took attendance. They also kept looking around to make sure no one fell asleep. If you skipped class, fell asleep in class, or skipped any other mandatory event, they reduced your stipend. The dorms were REALLY small, and the food was horrible.
The positives: I made a lot of good friends whom I kept in touch with after the program. We got to interact with current medical students and get a good perspective of what medical school, specifically case, is like. We had several speakers who provided useful information to help you decide if medicine is really the right field for you. You get to take two AAMC practice MCATs and attend an MCAT workshop. You can have a mock interview and have someone comment on your personal statement. Finally, it's a great thing to put down on med school apps.

Overall, I'm glad I did the program. It was a great way to spend the summer. Although there were many things we didn't like about the program, I think it put us at an advantage because we learned about the application process and life as a med student and physician. If you have any questions about the program or Cleveland pm me and I'll be glad to help you out.
