Hey everyone! I applied to UW, Columbia and UT Houston...Sadly, I got rejected from UW and Columbia is full 🙁 I was really hoping to get into Columbia...Oh well, everything happens for a reason...Im wait-listed for Houston, was just wondering if anyone got in after being wait-listed, I don't want to keep my hopes too high.

I was rejected from the University of Washington, and Columbia said it was full. I STILL have yet to hear from Duke. I called the national SMDEP office yesterday and they told me that apparently Duke hadn't released a decision for me yet. I've been making calls to Duke (which they haven't answered and the voicemail box is full, 😡 ) and sending e-mails, but still haven't gotten a response.

What should I do in this case? I'm going to call the national office again, but this is troubling...

Hey everyone CONGRATZ to everyone who got accepted thus far. My name is alex and I attended UMDNJ in summer of 2009. If anyone has any questions regarding any program sites feel free to message me. I am an SMDEP Ambassador, so I pretty much know all there is to know about SMDEP. lol I am also the person who created the SMDEP 2009 site on Facebook.. many people find a lot of answers to their questions there, and it would be a good idea to start a page on facebook to start meeting other pre med and dent students like yourselves, that will be attending your particular site. Some of you will start beginning the program in less than two months. SO EXCITED FOR ALLL OF YOU!

CONGRATZ again and make sure to STAY FOCUS and most of all.... . .

HAVE FUN!!!!! =] This will be a summer that you wont forget.

Based on what i've heard around my site (columbia) people's gpa's have varied significantly. The highest I've heard when people are talking (which probably is no where near the highest actually) is something like 3.85 whereas the lowest I've heard was close to 3. A lot of it depends on your application essays, LORS, and your personal situation. Your best chance by far is to complete it by February 1st. Columbia had over 1000 applicants for only 80 slots so keep that in mind! Before I applied, I called all of the sites I was interested in and asked them what they looked at. I am white so that put me at a natural disadvantage to the program (I'm still under-represented) at some sights. When I called UCLA, they basically told me they wouldn't even consider me for the program. So I suggest talking to each program you want to go to and finding out what they stress for applicants. Each program is different!!

In the application process, do they check for financial background?

They ask you what your financial background is and I would definitely suggest that you DO NOT lie because they will figure it out.... there were wealthy people there and people who were not economically wealthy so it basically came down to how well you wrote your essays, your LORS, and your grades.
