SMDEP 2015 THREAD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone! It's so nice to hear from people who are going through the same struggle as I am. I am currently a freshman. I heard about this program from a former participant who is currently attending UConn Medical school. I've been reading this thread for a while and just made an account. I applied to Yale, Columbia, and Howard. I have a question and hopefully someone can answer it. Will you receive a decision by February 15th if you've submitted your application by February 1st or if your application, transcript, and LOR's are in by February 1st? I've heard both and I'm so confused as to which one it is....

Hello! Does it say complete on your application or not? I think you need everything (transcript, LOR, application) to have a "complete."

The SMDEP program sites provide notification of admission decisions once the NPO has a "Completed" application by one of the following decision dates:
Admissions decisions are released on 02/15/2015 for applications completed by 02/01/2015.
Admissions decisions are released on 04/01/2015 for applications completed by 03/01/2015 @ 05:00 pm Eastern Time.

From what I have gathered from stalking previous threads over and over again is that most if not all of the people that had their applications completed in December were admitted to top sites

Oh man....it looks like I might not get in then cause I submitted mine on January 2nd

Now I'm even more worried. I completed my application in the middle of January.
I could be totally wrong.its still pretty early so you'll fersure get in somewhere. However, for the more competitive sites like Columbia I think that by January or by February it's difficult to get a spot.

See, I started my application in November so I have the old application site, not the new one so I'm not sure what mine will say. Also, on the website it says that after February 1st you will here by April 1st, but if you look at your application status and scroll down it says March 1st not April 1st. Which one is it??? Oh and do you think they will look at it if I only have one LOR in because that's the only thing I'm missing.

Okay well from what the SMDEP admission people have told me (it was a AMCAS conference) your application is considered incomplete until all letter of recommendations are in and processed. Therefore, they would not look at your application again though, that's what they told me and maybe they didn't know what they were talking about.

WOW! Great catch on the dates, I didn't even notice. I honestly don't know. But I can guess: I believe that since it says that everything has to be postmarked March 1 I believe that's the last day to submit applications and so I think that they need time to make a decision and so April 1 would be when I think the decision would be made for those submitting after Feb 15.

So they did not process my second LOR yet even though my advisor sent it in wayy before Feb 1st. However, my application was considered "complete" when my 2nd transcript was received.

But, still no "app in review" listed on any of my sites -_- Will I hear back by Feb 15?

As long as it says completed, the sites should have received your application.

I'd have to agree with twill132. If it says completed then don't worry even if it doesn't say that your LOR has been received. Your case is a little special so what I said wouldn't apply to you GOBlue17

Yeah, I emailed them this morning. Apparently my advisor's recommendation wasn't sent in correctly so she needed to re-send it. I just hope I hear back by the 15th so I can move on with life if I get rejected.

Any of you guys who have gone previously know anything about UNMC? Or Louisville?

Yay my application is finally in review for my second site! I was starting to get worried since my application was only in review for 1 school for the longest time!:claps:

For those of you who applied to Duke, did you receive a call from the institution?

Yes, i got a call from Duke a couple days after my application was completed. They just wanted to know the courses I am enrolled in this semester because it wasn't listed on my transcript.

Just saying, be kinda crazy if I get in somewhere and met with someone from here by luck

None of my sites are in review, anyone else? I'm freaking out right now. I applied to Columbia, UCLA, and UWash Med Program.

on feb. 15 when will we know if we got accepted or not? and is anyone applying to Howard , Houston , and Louisville?

if your application was complete by February 1st you'll know on February 15th. Louisville was one of the sites that I applied to!

For ucla: I talked to the admission people for ucla SMDEP in person. They were like yeah we never follow the smdep rules, we do our own thing (especially in curriculm). So I'm guessing they are just too lazy to update it. But I agree with B3B, you should try calling Smdep if you are worried!!

PS: I applied to ucla and am not in review either. Also, I have yet to see anyone in review for ucla on this or other websites.

None of mine are in review either!!!! When was your app completed? I also applied to UWash

I called Columbia and my app was in review even though it didn't say so on the site! I would not worry too much about it.

Howard is a really interesting school it would be awesome if I get in . But there the only one that's not in review 🙁
Yeah it doesn't look like anyone who applied to Howard is in review. But I'm hoping they've reviewed it and just haven't updated yet

My application for UWash is the only one that isn't in review.😢

I know I'm so late but did anyone apply to Howard, UVA and Duke ?

can't believe we're down to three days!!

Okay at least I know now that some sites just don't show they are in review.

Like I'm scared to get rejected by the program, but at the same time know it's better if I don't do it since I'm doing study aboard the other 6 weeks of summer break.

I'm going to the UK! I'm excited. I'll love to this program after as well, hopefully they let me start a few days later than the start date so I can spend a week with my family lol.

I'm from Detroit, Michigan (yes the city, not a suburb). My family moved to a suburb after I started college. My username kind of gives away where I go -- University of Michigan 🙂
