Can anyone tell me how competitive SMEP admissions is for post-bac's? I believe the only two schools that offer spots to post-bac's are Columbia and Yale.

University of Washington offers spaces to post-baccs. I was there last summer as a post-bacc, it was a great program.

The Baylor/Rice program I was at this summer had 2 post-bacc students. One was 26 and one was 37! You should definitely go for it.

Case takes non-trads and post-baccs.
Just be ready to deal with lots of immaturity. 😡

I attended Case this past summer and I would say that the immaturity was no more than you will find in a normal class......there are a lot of freshmen/sophomores at these programs.....how can you even compare maturity level of these kids with non-trads (I am not talking of 1-2 yrs out of school non-trads ) .......

I absolutely loved the program and would do it again if I had to repeat....it is an amazing time to intriduce yourself to so many high-level people and be known in the program......and remember you are not going to these programs to make life-long friends (I did make a lot and I mean a lot of friends in that program so don't get me wrong.......we all still keep in touch....I talk to atleast 2-3 people from that program everyday via phone/chat/email) ......

you get to meet admissions dean face to face 2-3 times before you leave, plus you have free access to Director, minority programs, (who is I think dean of students affair as well) (who is an amazing person and so inspiring that even if you don't want to go into medicine...you will definitely think hard about that choice), plus you get to see the school for whole 6 weeks and everything is paid for........

I would definitely apply to Case without any reservation not because I went there but because I loved the program.........

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM me....

I am non-trad too. I have Case interview on monday, do you have any tips? is it OK if I PM you?

I attended the SMEP program at Duke a year ago. It was a wonderful experience!!!! There were 2 or 3 post baccs. One lady was in her late 30's. We got tons of information on the application process as well as good prep classes (writing in medical education, cell biology, physiology). We had a course in bioethics and standardized patient module ( we got experience interviewing actors posing as patients). Most importantly I met some of my now closest friends there. We still keep in touch and visit each other!! Good luck !
