Hey All,

Long time forum reader, decided to finally register. I've spent a few hours in the forum and can't seem to find any threads about post-bacs and glide years. I've been accepted to a few post bacs, but I was just wondering if:

A. if it is possible to skip the glide year in any post bac program (which doesn't make sense really, since you would be submitting the amcas this summer before the post bac starts...but perhaps certain schools w/ linkages weight in the post-bac program?)

B. if there is no hope of avoiding the glide year of post-bacs, then what do people usually do? (e.g. work healthrelated (EMT-B), or take classes?)

Thanks! (and if no one replies to this, I'll feel like a loser and be wicked depressed).

I was tempted not to answer so you could feel like a loser and wicked depressed but I decided against it. Karma.

A. Yes, it's definitely possible. Some programs even encourage it. (G-town, Drexel) With some programs, you really go there with the intention of sliding right into their med school the following year (RFUMS, EVMS, UConn...etc) A lot of it depends on which program you're talking about and what your stats are

B. That also depends on the deficiency in your application. If your problem is GPA, then I'd definitely recommend that you take more classes to remedy that. If you don't have enough clinical experience, then go get some. Many people lack research experience. Sometimes certain programs specifically design their glide year for students to complete a research project.

hope this helps.

If you don't mind, maybe you can tell us which programs you got into? We're all family here...so don't be shy.

Thanks for the sweet response calbear.

I just got into BU, and have an interview at upenn. I'm still waiting to hear from Drexel and GU. From what I've read so far, I feel like a good amount of people are in the same boat.

I believe that BU has a glide year as well as UPenn(?), and that's really my main concern in post-bac decisions though. I feel like a year is a long time to be out of school, and I have a ton of of clinical exp. and volunteer work, but lab. research is the bane of my existence.
(ungrad gpa is a 2.91 and mcat 29n)

sorry for the rant peps.
