Hello! I am looking for some advice about how to move forward while planning for applications for MD.
I applied this last cycle (2020/2021) and did not receive any interview invites. I was highly limited in my school selection as I was not a permanent resident when I started the applications. I do now have my green card so if/when I apply again I'll be less limited there.
I am currently a prenatal genetic counselor at a major academic institution. In my role, I work with patients, am adjunct faculty, provide education to graduate students, residents/fellows, and am heading a committee for a student's thesis project as a part of their graduate school requirements.
I finished graduate school in 2018 with a 3.78 GPA.
Undergraduate degree (Canadian university) in biochemistry with 3.0 cumulative GPA and 3.1 scGPA completed in 2011.
Over 500 hours of non-clinical volunteering, research mentor with 500 hours of experience, have shadowed physicians as a part of my graduate school training (50 + hours) and have worked as a clinical genetic counselor for three years full time.
I am wondering if my biggest limitation is the fact that my undergrad and thereby my pre-requisites were taken almost 10 years ago and I should consider a post-bacc or if I need to prove that I can study and take an SMP?
A post-bacc wouldn't really help my GPA as the majority of my undergraduate classes were sciences as a biochemistry major so it wouldn't really provide a bump there.
Any thoughts/guidance would be incredibly appreciated!
