No acceptances this cycle, just on waitlists. In the event that I don't get in, I'm looking at Plan B options. Since my GPA is where I think I need a little help, I'm leaning toward the SMP idea. I have taken all of the pre-med requirements already, so I know I need to look for programs who take students like me (I know lots don't like those who are looking to raise their GPA on classes they've already taken).

I'd really like to stay in CA for the SMP, but the only ones I really hear anything about are Georgetown and BU. Are there any official programs in CA (preferably NorCal)? The one's I've read about (Mills and SFSU) both prefer students who haven't taken the courses yet.

I really apologize if this information is somewhere already on SDN, but I searched for quite some time and only found information on post-bacc programs, most of which don't apply to me because I've already taken all pre-med classes.

Thanks for all the help!

Hi CMar,

You might want to check out the Post-Bac instead of the Pre-Allo forum. There's a ton of great info there on the different programs available to you.

Best of luck!

If you want an SMP, there are none in California. An SMP as it is wouldn't help your undergraduate GPA; you'd be better off going to a university and taking some upper level undergraduate courses to boost the uGPA. If you don't want a Special Masters, you shouldn't go to BU or Georgetown or any of those; you could do this on your own for a LOT less money (if that happens to be a concern of yours).

SFSU does have a post-bacc program that is just for those who haven't taken the pre-reqs, but you could also go through their open university and take some classes; you could do the same at a UC.

The UCs have programs for reapplicants; apparently you have to be an socioeconomically disadvantaged student, but you could still try.

Wait, this is already in the Post-Bacc forum; I thought it looked familiar.
