Does anyone know of any SMPs that are specifically for pre-dental students? It seems like there a lot for pre-meds, but I've called and some of them require the MCAT even if you're not interested in premed.

I prefer something where you take classes side by side with med or dent students. Bonus points if they don't require the GRE.

I know of Baylor and Creighton. Any others??

What is an SMP? I did a search but could not find any information.

SMP = Special Masters Program
You can read more about them in the Post-bacc forum, they're basically 1 yr programs to boost up your gpa.

UNT has an SMP for med students but will take a DAT score as an MCAT substitute. UT also has a 1 yr program. Of course these are all in TX though.

I actually live in Texas. I've heard of the UNT program but not the UTone. Which campus is it? Link?

No classes with med/dent students, so I ruled it out.

you take classes with medical podiatry students if you are accepted to the 1 year program. if you are in the 2 year program then you take a lighter load with other grad students.

obviously, im a little biased being from creighton undergrad, but they do have an excellent post-bacc program for dental and medical students. i believe it is considered a masters in anatomy, but you end up doing about 18 months of school and you're pretty much in. Also, if you do this program, you get half off dental school or medical school tuition b/c you are paying full price. i have some friends in it and they have absolutely no complaints.

What is Creighton looking for stats-wise? I know they want disadvantaged applicants.

is this like a program if you don't get into dental school, then u can try to go through the SMP which will then get u into d-school

Nova Southeastern's Masters of Biomedical Sciences. If you can get into the masters program (only like 5 spots every year for pre-dental students) you're guaranteed a spot in the next dental class. If you get A's in the classes u take in the masters program, you don't have to retake them in dental school. You take classes with med & dental students. Probably your best bet if you can get in.

Adding Nova to my list.

Edit: On Nova's website, it says the masters is in no way related to the other programs nor does it guarantee admission into those programs. Plus it's 2 years long.

I'd call and ask them about it... i have friends in it right now. They will go thru this 1 year, then they will be entering nova dental in august 2008.
