I hear a lot about Georgetown, EVMS, University of Cincinatti, Boston, etc. when people discuss SMPs.

I don't hear as much about Colorado State, New York Medical College, Dartmouth, Buffalo, etc.

Any reason why that is? And if anybody does know about these SMPs, can you provide some information about them?

Thanks! :luck:

A good SMP puts you in med school classes with med students, and grades you against the med school curve, ideally for one year. It's an audition for med school. It's med school on the 5 year plan. Ideally a good SMP supports your efforts to apply to med schools other than the SMP host school. Ideally you can start med school immediately after finishing your SMP year. A good SMP candidate is somebody who has a killer med school app with the sole exception of low GPA. A good SMP is not MCAT prep, nor does it fluff your ECs. You shouldn't have time to fluff your ECs during an SMP. A good SMP gives you another good LOR.

NYMC has an SMP.

Colorado has a biomed masters program. Dartmouth has a clinical science program. Buffalo has a biomed grad program. These would be interesting for med school candidates who have really good GPAs but need more bake time (to gain maturity).

See the GPA enhancement sticky for links to a boatload of programs.

Best of luck to you.
