EDIT: This was supposed to be a thread about the first day of SN2. However as with all intelligent life, things evolve. This thread has now become a support page for people following the SN2 plan. You can think of it as Alcoholics Anonymous for people studying to take the MCAT using the SN2 plan.

EDIT July 1, 2014:
If you are interested in @mehc012's Anki Deck, DO NOT SEND A PM. Here is the link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7if6wgaif98rkoa/mehc012 SN2edCh4s.apkg
**A NOTE: @mehc012 and several others (myself included) want to tell you guys that studying from another person's deck will probably not be as beneficial to you as creating your own cards. Yes you can take advantage of @mehc012's generosity, but you won't get the same advantage. Study the material. Create cards as you go along. You will find it more helpful to your studying. **

EDIT July 22, 2014:
The following is @TBRBiosadist's official MCAT Verbal Reasoning Strategy:
@TBRBiosadist's strategy that got [him] from a 7 average to scoring 13-15 average..

Spend the bulk of your time reading. Up to 3 minutes per passage.
  • Read the first and last paragraph thoroughly to begin with. Understand what the authors main point will be because 90% of questions require nothing more than a general idea.
  • After this, read the entire passage slowly enough where you dont feel like you need to reread sentences for understanding.
Next is just answer questions, there is a few tricks here that work about 90% of the time
  • Unless the passage is asking you about a specific detail, dont look back. READ EVERY ANSWER THOROUGLY AND THEN Answer what makes sense from the general point of the passage. Its very easy to prove a wrong answer to be somewhat correct if you dig hard enough, dont. Answer what your gut says and move onto the next question, dont contemplate to much. With that being said...
  • Answer like you were dropped on the head as a child. Alot of times if Im arguing between two answers, there is the answer that is 100% correct, and one that is 90% correct. Be an idoit and choose the one that seems like it is correct. However.....
  • "Always" is a word to avoid. If an answer uses this word, or definites like it, it is something to avoid. I would say 80% of the time the wishy washy answer is more correct then the highly affirmative one. This leads to my final point....
  • 100% of the time you are not actually looking for the "right" answer in verbal, this isnt PS or BS where 1+1 almost always equals 2 (unless we are talking about the different sedimentation values for Ribosomes). In verbal you are looking for the answer that isnt wrong. Often times an answer will seem very "right" but one aspect of it is clearly wrong, as compared to an answer that isnt wrong, but doesnt seem as right as that answer, these are meant to fool you. Choose the answer that isnt wrong.
I understand that I few of these tips may be at odds with each other. Ultimately you must adjust slightly for each passage, but it comes down to one thing. Read thoroughly. Read every sentence in the passage. Read every question. Read every answer. Then the correct answer will be fairly obvious. This may seem like it takes longer, but it takes much less time than skimming, and then trying to find the correct information later.

Or to summarize in one sentence

Understand what the hell the author is arguing

EDIT July 26, 2014:

@DoctorInASaree uploaded a guide to Verbal Reasoning. If you're interested, it's worth a look. Here is the link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2byivymmqwlvjms/MCAT VR Primer DRSAREE.pdf

________________________________________________
Just finished the first day of SN2...man is it long and exhausting.

The first day is BR physics chapter (translational motion) + 1/3 of the passages. I felt like I wasn't able to apply the stuff I read into the stuff I was tested on.

Has anyone felt this way when following the schedule? It just seems like the contents of the chapter didn't really stick in my head when I took the practice passages. Will this improve over time?

EDIT 3, March 4, 2015:

For verbal, if you are feeling lost and confused, I highly highly recommend you to look into the MCAT Strategy Course by @Jack Westin. I've been working with him, and nothing comes close to his course and teaching. It's a strategy course, so it will cover everything, not just the VR/CARS section.

It was pretty much "I drink raw milk. Want some? Wanna #@$?" and then never leaving me alone all night. Not sure why...I'm decent but I'm no tenner.
HA HA HA really ?? guys are pretty forward in this country ! No romance *better for me*

I always use my Jamaican Irish accent . Works every-time !

I kid, I kid.
But for real, I went to a club in Singapore once and my friends and I spent the whole night raving about how polite people were. They'd try to dance with you, but then, if you didn't go along with it...they'd stop. No forced grinding, no continually moving you hair so they could try to kiss you (despite you frantically recombing it in front of your face and turning away), no following you to the bathroom or waiting for you nearby, no you-summoning-male-friends-to-sandwich-grind-you-so-they'd-bail, nothing. It was nice.

Play around with settings. Also there is a formula 1.relaxedd face pic, 2.body pic (in a natural setting, only shirtless if you have something to show) 3. group of friends 4. Hobby. Make sure your distance are set properly and remember to right swipe alot. Itll come everytime I remake my account I get bettee at it. At first I didnt get anything either. Have a female friend choose which pics to use.

Wow now im curious !! What are you doing to drive these guys to such primal behavior !

I think it's almost worse...you develop a pretty strong "leave me alone" knee jerk that is 9 times out of 10 unwarranted. It's REALLY necessary that 10th time, but it's the first 9 normal guys who suffer most.

I always wonder what the mental image we have of each other is after chatting for so long
for some strange reason I picture you as the kid fro harry potter because you said you where ginger !! mehc I always thought of as looking like buffy the vampire slayer chick

Nothing! As I said, I'm no 10. It's not just me, that's just kind of an assumed baseline at a lot of college parties. My friends and I (none of us particularly flirty, dressy, or traditionally 'hot') had a codeword for "bail me out" because people just...push things too far. A lot. And as I said above, this is kind of self-propagating, because then you auto-shut-down the majority of advances, and then people feel like they've got to push harder to get anywhere, and then people feel the need to shut things down harder, and then...

Ahahaha, that is wonderful. Please, please continue thinking that.

I always, always picture people as whoever is in the first avatar I see of them. NickNaylor will always be a young black guy to me, for example. Narmerguy just gave me the sense of xkcd, and his current pic throws me off. I am gradually adjusting to LizzyM as, well, 'M'.

People with abstract photos get a little weird.

Ha Ha you guys have it really hard in this country .. The other day I went to a conference with a friend and some dudes came over to hit on her, I was minding my own business until I noticed her Kicking my leg constantly! I just brushed this off as she being drunk and stupid but after we left the club she was pissed at me for not jumping in and save her from the creep ... LOL I swear this is a cultural thing , guys back off in Jamaica because they don't want the girl to make a scene .. Or im just being a blind patriot

Imagine a well muscled and toned, shortish, ginger kid, hair medium length, cut and styled in the whole messy "boys wanna have fun look" slap on a bit of 5 o clock shadow and some blue eyea fleked with gold, square jaw (and red hair that ia closer to auburn than ginger) and you got me

did mehc made a meme of herself a while back ? Now im curious ... O well buffy the vampire slayer for now you got that bad as* girl vibe . Sarre gives off a katara vibe

Ginger with 5 o'clock shadow?
Sorry, have to see that one to believe!

am I close ?

Saree I see as a short bubbly indian girl who wears alot of bright clothes and is always smiling and optimistic

I personally love that scrubs is voted among doctors and interns not only the most medically accurate doctor show, but also most accurate when it comes to hospital relationships and shenanigans.

A white tiger.

Really though, white, somewhat shaggy blonde hair, im going to guess glasses. And in moderately good shape.

Just finished aamc 3, first thoughts NEED TO BUILD STAMINA, found my self in an internal conflict between jumping and solving. Scores are 30 (my target) bs 12 ps11 v 7. That verbal score seriously. Main problem was that I found out through half of the passages that I am not using @TBRBiosadist method .
On another front scrubs is one of my favorite shows can't get enough of perry's sarcasm.

Guys what do you after your FLs, watch a movie, catch a beer ...

Hey guys,

Just signed up to ask a question. So I plan on taking the MCAT November 8th as a retake and just put the Sn2 schedule in my Google calendar. Got all of the supplies too.

But how many hours a day have you averaged while using this schedule? Any break/timing advice would be appreciated as well.

Hi there! :hello: I think most posters here put in an average of 6hours or more a day. I do my best to put in 11-12hours a day; giving myself a two hour break at the end of the day. Do what you need to do in order to prevent a "burn-out". For me this means copious amounts of Disney movies and Justice League cartoons. 😛

@TexasSurgeon tall well built, wears pink, blond mmm thats my call but mehc is right now you are just that guy from suits
Thank you!

LOL, I think Dr. Saree got the skin color closer

@DoctorInASaree, I'm taking your dropbox link and adding it to 1st page.

At least 6 hours of actual studying. Then about another 2-4 hours of studying at around 65% efficiency

How do you honestly manage to study 11-12 hours a day? Does that include breaks or random Internet searches haha?

I'm asking because I want to make sure I have my routine all planned out. I took my last MCAT on July 12th (still waiting for scores :/) and want to approach my second in a much more organized manner.

I'm crazy!!! 😀😀😀😀 I suppose it all started out when I was younger and my father gave me this "weird" look when my siblings and I only studied eight hours a day. Now I love libraries, and they're like my second home. I wonder if I can claim that on my next tax return...😉

And you got me! I really wanted to see Wonder Woman's outfit! Okay, back to studying! 😀:flame:

@avenlea after taking aamc 3 I know what you feel, dont worry its serving as shock reminder to get you started.

Once golden, always golden don't let a score demotivate you.

Will look forward to your scores
