Are we expected to miss a full day of class for them? I notice that many school take you on a "tour" of the campus and the visit lasts 5-6 hours. Considering that I have a full day of classes 4 days a week and many of them have a required attendance policy, am I screwed?

I plan on missing classes for this. I already have one interview (and will hopefully have one or two more by the time school starts), and I plan on informing my professors of my planned absence ASAP.

Missing school?

what about missing days of work and the associated income when you're married and paying everything out of pocket yourself?

that's more serious. you can get notes and talk to your teachers. i remember all those kids in college. profs were willing to work with them.

Just talk to your professors about it beforehand to see if you can work something out.

In one of my classes, on the first day the professor said that absolutely-positively-without-a-doubt that she wouldn't accommodate your schedule and if you miss a test, then that's your single dropped grade. If you miss two, well you're screwed. She didn't care if you got hit by a bus or had a dozen med school interviews, that was that. Well I talked to her about taking an exam at another time since I would be missing one due to an interview. I asked if she could find it in her heart to make this one exception since I was interviewing at her alma mater UW-Madison. I even added in a "Go badgers, woo!" at the end of my proposal. She let me take the exam when I got back the next week.

a professor that wont let you miss class for a med school interview is flat out a jerk.

Yes you are expected to miss class. Remember though, once you get into medical school, it really doesn't matter.

=)

My grades matter for at least the first term, becuase I have scholarship money contingent upon being above a certain GPA. Also, my courses are going to be quite difficult and was worried about bombing a class...
