I didn't really apply to any reach schools; all the schools I applied to were in my stats range. I did get into my two top choices, both mid-range schools (both off the waitlist).

Coming from personal experience, a lot of kids at Ivy League schools are pretty pretentious. To call Harvard "pompous" is a stereotype, but all stereotypes have a basis in reality.

Doesn't validate the use of a stereotype. There are a lot of half-truths that have some basis.

But personally, I've had a fair bit of experience with Harvard and pompous really does fit over 70% of my interaction with professors/administrators there. It seems less common in the students but still plenty to go around. But the administrators and professors, just wow.
