Just wanted to start a poll-type thread. Being that AACOMAS factors in retakes, how many classes have you retaken? Has this affected your application process at all??

-I will be retaking second semester of bio, second semester of calc, and have retaken two quarters of O chem. (Ds the first time, Cs the second). Will be retaking them after I graduate for a third time. That seemed to be all.

***** I forgot to add "0" as a choice. No biggie. Just type it out. 🙂 *****

Should've made a poll then.

I've retaken 6.

>10. They were all from over 10 years ago though.

What about people who haven't retaken any classes? Can you edit the poll to include zero?

It's not letting me edit the poll. 🙁 sorry. Just put zero I guess. 🙂

I've retaken 4. They pumped up my sGPA quite a bit

I have retaken around six classes, a few of them more than once.

I just did not get Gen Chem. I think I took it three times. Still best grade I could get was C+. I tried different study methods, resources, tutoring. Nope. Just do not get it. Funny thing is, I did well in all my other pre-reqs including O-Chem. Go figure.

Sounds like my problem with orgo.

Took orgo1 and 2 three times (twice in undergrad, then 5years later in postbacc)

Ive only retaken 2 so far. I have 4 more to do.

Christ, why does no one ever make a 0 on these polls.

I've retaken 6.

Out of curiosity, how did MD schools respond to you retaking classes? I feel like having retaken freshman chemistry is going to seem bogus to them.

Technically two, one was the non-honors version of physics (1st time around was the honors version, ended up withdrawing). Smoked it the second time around.

It's less bogus when you get a 32+ on the MCAT.

Complete at 21 MD schools. 9 pending, 5 rejections, and 7 II. Of those interviews, 4 wait lists, 1 acceptance, 2 pending results, 1 not attended.

Did any of them actually comment on it, though?

I'm not saying it was bogus that you did it. I was saying I can see my state MD school think it's crap that I retook a freshman class that I got a C in while simultaneously enrolled in 400 level chemistry classes. I don't know what to tell them when/if they ask other than it's to efficiently bring up my gpa for DO schools, which obviously I don't want to say that to them.

In a round about way it has come up. Essentially I just say that I wanted to show that I could perform in the pre-reqs and that I wanted it as part of my MCAT prep.

I think I will have retaken 4-5 classes by the time I finish.
I had one semester when I first got out of high school that I pretty much bombed everything, and I had one class that I had to retake from my real college experience.

Zero.
I have a 3.7 overall GPA and a 3.6 sciGPA
Never got a C.

And from the looks of your previous posts, you are African American? That's great! Your URM status will surely get you acceptances! 👍

Only 1. Considering 2 more in the summer.

URM is not everything. I still have to take the MCAT and work on my ECs.

For an uncountable number of people, it is the only reason they got in somewhere. Not saying this will be you, as I don't know your stats, but it is what it is.

in your case, it will be everything.

Where's that white tears jpg when you need it...

I am retaking Physics, ochem 2 lecture.. it will greatly help

better question: how many times did you retake the same class? 4.

wow! Hows your app cycle going so far? What is your GPA and MCAT if you don't mind me asking?

ive been accepted to DO after going back to school and doing well. Still waiting on MD, but expecting rejection.

I have retaken 7 courses this past year. Bio 1&2, Chem 1&2, Physics 1&2, Ochem 1. All A's, so my GPA from undergrad got a big boost.

If I calculated everything correctly:

DO = 3.33 cGPA 3.51 sGPA
MD = 3.05 cGPA 2.99 sGPA (I know I don't have any real chance at MD, but I always use it to compare)

Hopefully my recent academic performance will override a poor undergrad performance from 10-13 years ago 🙁

Nice! i plan on doing the same (but just for O chem, calc, and Bio) back at the CC I transferred from after I graduate from this 4-year that I'm at. 👍

0. I've gotten one C but it was freshman year and in a stupid non-important class, no need to retake. And I've been to 3 interviews so far and that has not been brought up.
