took dat on 08/25 and got
bio 16
chem 15
ochem 15
rc 18
pat 16
rc 16
AA 16

BCP gpa 3.55
Sgpa 3.44
Cgpa 3.53

so these score are embarrassing but next time i can reatke is nov 25 which most schools wont take after oct. do you guys think i am just out of luck this cycle?
Thanks

there are some schools that have deadlines in jan and feb. So you could try those.

But unless your DAT scores are in top 1%, I doubt you will get interviews applying that late with your GPA (I am not saying it is bad, but competition just increases as time passes).

Did you not study as much as you should have? If so, what can you do the next time around to improve? Sorry to hear about this though. 🙁

you're not going to want to hear this but, honestly, with those dat scores you're really not going to get an interview anywhere. I would retake. Study hard, and kill the dat. If you can get 20+ on the dat, you have a good GPA. With a great dat score you're not out of luck, and will get some post dec interviews.

In short:
current dat+gpa=probably no interviews
Retake dat 20+ + gpa= good chance of a few post dec interviews, and maybe 1 or 2 acceptances late in the cycle.

You have a chance, start studying. Worst case scenario is you'll have a great dat for next cycle.

How were you doing on practice tests?

Wow how much did you study before taking the DAT?

You may have a chance at getting late interviews if you ace the DAT is Nov., and may have a chance to get in through the waiting list.

Thanks i was doing good on practice tests getting 20's and 22 on pat for kaplan practice tests but the questions were just not similar whatsover it seemed like to me

hmm maybe it was nervousness? kbb is good, use destroyer too
study retake and do well and you'll have a chance.
i'm not sure if i would apply with those scores though, because you'll probably be rejected outright. IMO better to wait until you get new dat scores then apply

hmm yeah it seems like you did well on practice tests.. but i would retake.. topscore practice exams i found to be pretty close to the real thing so definitely use those

and yeah destroyer will help a LOT with the sciences. good luck!

Dont give up !!!
Work on reading kbb and cliffs for the bio section, focus on practicing a lot of g-chem and ochem ( destroyer/topscore) questions over and over to boost ur total science. Also, i dont know if u used CDP, if u didn't i recommend buying this and practicing.
If u are going to retake, these are my suggestions. Dont be discouraged to give it give it another shot.

looks like my first one....DONT GIVE UP!!!!

thank you for the replies. definately feels better to get some advice and to see other people have overcome similar situations. do you think if i retake in november is worth trying or should i wait till next cycle? i had already apllied to west coast schools and ohio this summer thinking i would have done a little better on the dat

Since you have already applied, and with your decent GPA, I would say to definitely not give up this cycle and re-take it in November. Let schools know you will be re-taking it and if you do well on it, there is still a chance you can get interviews late into the cycle and be able to salvage something. It's better than having to re-apply next cycle and waste an entire year.

by telling wchools about a retake do i just call each school and let them know?

Yeah you need to call or email each school letting them know and they will make a note on your application. Also, I don't know if every school will actually wait for your new scores to arrive before reviewing your app, so I would ask them that as well.

You're gonna need to change your MO and kill the DAT next round. Don't worry too much though, you've got 3 rounds to TKO that sucker.
Pick yourself up. Keep your head up. You've still got 2 rounds

If you get 20+ next time you might be able to pull a late feb or march interview

Hope my story gives you some help.
I graduated from colleges, 1997 and 2006, with AA on Nursing and BS in Biology. Have taken total three DATs between Sep. 2007 and July, 2010.
The first two scores were almost same.
Bio/GC/OC/RC/QC/PAT/AA/TS
1st - 16/17/16/16/16/18/16/16
2nd- 18/16/17/16/15/21/16/17

Applied a couple of dental schools and was turned down on 2008 cycle. Back then I was so disappointed, honestly I was afraid about future failing and everything, i.e. language barrier(I came from S.Korea when I was 25), being a mother of two kids(4 and 6yrs old), and life as a humble human being....... So I took one year off from everything. The break gave me an opportunity to think 'why I am pursuing dentistry' and realized how badly I want.

Long story short... It is all about MENTAL GAME!!!!!

After a year off(actually almost two years off), I realized how badly I want/need to be a dentist. That gave me a strong motivation to power my system. I studied hard for almost six-month, and took my third DAT last month, and got
Bio/GC/OC/RC/QC/PAT/AA/TS
21/23/20/15*/18/20/19/21 (English is my second language.. plus, I had a PIANO passage)
It's not that great scores, but I think I am more competiive than 2008 cycle.

YOU CAN DO IT. GET OVER WITH A FEAR.. and work harder! Just focus on how badly you want to be a dentist. This process is all mental game and a proving process. We are smart people who survived from all high level of bio, chem, orchem, and PHYSICS classes. If you get over with a fear and do work harder on studying DAT, I bet you will get even higher score than mine. Last thing is 'don't rush'. You are not thirty five, are you?

I am not a good writer even in Korean. Sorry for my poor grammer. But you understand what I want to say. Good luck. -M
