well lets just say that I have alot of Cs and Bs.
I have a C in orgo1 and 2, biochem, and phsyiology, and my GPA overall is like 3.39, and my science GPA is like 3.1, and I will be taking the MCAT this spring, and also sending the apps in june. So do you think I have a chance. I have activities like clinical experince, research, lab tech, teacher 4 years at my religious weekend school, clubs and other stuff..so what u think?do you think i have a chance in any Illinois schools....i know iam stupid, but i wanna do it so bad!

Having C's in both orgo 1 and 2 will definitely hurt you, to say the least.
med schools really look into your orgo grades. i dont know how competitive illinois schools are, but to make up for your orgo grades, i would suggest taking upper divison orgo classes and get a's. also you needa do very well on ur BS section of MCAT.

In the near future, you can retake the classes you got a C in and get A's in them. Re-take the classes you are know you can get an A if you take them again. Good luck! It's ok to have a few C's in your application (at least to my understanding).

when students get C's or below, what is the likelihood that they will get A's when they retake the class? I remember getting a B+ in general chemistry during a summer college program for high school juniors and when i retook it again i still got the same grade at my current college. any else experience this?

Well, sometimes people don't try in a class and end up with something they don't want...I'm leaving that open for interpretation for the original poster. But yeah, I do feel you on retaking the class and getting the same grade. lol if that happens to you, then you should take it from another teacher or something...in my experience, this is something i did.

The likelihood of going up from a C to a B is much higher than going from a B+ to an A, I'd wager. But either way, the OP (that's forum slang for original poster, right?) will have a very tough time getting into any med school with those stats. You'd have to perform well enough on the MCATs to convince the schools you could pass the USMLE, and then you will have to write incredible essays and present yourself well. Getting the grades up couldn't hurt either.

hey just to re-emphasize my point, getting c's is not the end of the world. but getting c's in ochem might be. so yea, like the other person suggested, you might wanna retake the ochem classes. good luck

just to encourage, i had a load of C's back in college (i'm sure i got a few in orgo). graduated, took a year off and then went right back into a postbac at the local univ, and took a load of classes (orgo being some of them). glad to say i was able to pull off all A's. what was different for me the second time around was a difference in my study habits and my goals (in college, i didnt consider medicine too seroiusly..too busy doing other stuff like working, which i hit myself over doing). so when you decide to retake or do postback or whatever, you really have to be honest with yourself. ask youselrf the right questions before investing more time and $ for this thing we're pursuing.

gluck! :luck:

If I am an adcom reading this, I'm thinking that these two sentences contradict each other. I agree that your MCAT can improve your application, but if you want admission right out of undergrad, you better score high the first time you take it. It's the only way to show that your grades really aren't indicative of your study habits or that you've changed your ways. That said, you're still going to be fighting a steep hill.

Realistically, though, if you didn't learn the material that well in class, the MCAT is not going to be your strong suit.

The C's may not be the end of the world, but four C's in science classes are often seen on the transcripts of rejected applicants. 🙁

I think that sendwich's idea might be the best for you.

First time I applied, I had low grades too and I applied late...didn't even get one interview.

BTW...second time applying...the grades are still haunting me. It's really the worst thing you can mess up cuz there is no way of hiding them.

The suggestion with retaking some classes is a good one especially for Ochem because you're gonna have to write these grades out on some of your secondaries. So they'll stand out on your app.

There is no question they're gonna hurt you bad. Rock the MCAT. APPLY EARLY.

Good luck!

Not only will those Cs hurt you (as the others have pointed out), the fact that two were in Orgo doesn't bode particularly well for the MCAT. It's fine to say "Go out there and pwn the MCAT" but quite frankly with those grades, it might be very difficult for you to excel to the point of overshadowing your grades to an admissions committee...

Thus (just so I'm not accused of trolling) I would recommend that you don't apply for the next cycle when you are intending to and don't take the MCAT in June. Instead, retake some of those classes - if for no other reason than to better your understanding of the material... Then, when you've gotten some decent grades and feel like you know it well, sign up for the MCAT again (and preferably take a class to prepare for it) and rock the MCAT.

It is not the end of the world (or the admissions process) to apply a year or two late... But if you try to rush it, you may wind up doing yourself in.

The first time I took Physics I I received a C+. I retook it the next semester and got an A. And I got accepted this year to my top choice. It's possible! 🙂 Good luck!! :luck:
