Some schools prefer to ask the Magic 8 Ball whether they should invite you to an interview/accept you or not; the problem with this though is that the Magic 8 Ball might be biased. There's been a trend lately towards placing names in a hat and picking out potential interviewees/matriculants randomly. Proponents of this method argue that the randomness of this process is the most objective way of figuring out which students are a good fit for the school.

It's important to note that the methods I've listed are utilized extensively both pre-interview and post-interview. Your actual application and interview skills are a negligible part of the ultimate decision to accept you. So, rest assured that when you pretend to be a chimpanzee and fling poo at your next interview, it will have no serious implication in your chances for acceptance. Good luck and godspeed!

If the winner of the tournament is the same adcom member who originally chose the applicant, the applicant is admitted. If not, the applicant goes into the "Maybe" pile, usually to be wait listed.

It's kinda funny, one of my friends and I often joke that we look "the same" on paper. We're really a bit more different than that, but the main stats (GPA and projected MCAT) are almost the same. We have a similar sense of humor, but in almost every other way, he and I are different in terms of personality. I figure that's what will differentiate us in the Med School process.
