So I am new here, but have quickly become addicted to SDN! I feel better knowing there are other crazy pre-vet students out there! 🙂 I have a few questions though, and I didn't see the answers on here, so...

1) Does U of IL (my IS) accept AP credits? I read somewhere last year that they only accepted them for Physics and Chemistry (like Cornell I believe) but now I can't find that info. I have 31 credits on my transcript from AP courses, so if U of IL doesn't accept them then there goes my IS....

2) I have a 3.404 GPA right now as a Junior. I feel like this semester with Ochem and physics it will probably go down (i'm thinking a B- and B in those respectively). So I'm wondering, do I wait to apply for a year so that my last 45 credits GPA will (hopefully) be higher and (again, hopefully) my overall GPA will be higher (from a lot of hands on animal classes senior year) or do I just try to apply this next cycle, even if I don't think I'll get in? I feel my experience, GRE, and personal essays/interview/etc will be up to par, just not the GPA. Thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks and good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear from schools/ congrats on those who just got in! 🙂

1) You'll have to call IL. I know they're weird about credits. :/

2) I'd say apply. Your GPA isn't bad, and I think IL throws out your GPA after you make it to the interview stage... so as long as you qualify for that, I think you'd be okay. I may be wrong, but I remember them being more forgiving re: grades at a certain point.

Good luck, maybe someone else can add more. 🙂

Thanks, I called them and in case anyone was wondering they accept AP credits as long as you have taken a higher level course in that subject at your university (i.e. if you took AP biology for your general biology requirement, you should take a microbiology or similar course in college).

Glad to hear it worked out for you. 🙂

I say give it a try! Some of us on here got interviews this cycle with lower GPAs. Never discount the importance of the GRE however. I would prep for that early ad take it sooner rather than later so you can take aother crack at it if you aren't satisfied. Not that you need stellar GRE with a 3.4, but it never hurts.

My best advice: get everything together and give it a "test run" it never hurts to try. Maybe apply narrowly for 2016, and if that doesn't pan out, you'll be able to file review and improve your shots for 2017. Good Luck😀
