Today, I mentioned wanting to pursue military medicine and be a military doc for a few years. The surgeon who I was shadowing tells me to follow him and then drops me off at another surgeon's office to talk about military medicine... After a few minutes of talking about the Military, the conversation shifts towards Medical school, MCAT, and the rest of undergrad. The conversation was going well until he mentioned he was an ADCOM for the medical school.

The conversation turned awesome when he gave me his card, and told me to call him for help when applying to medical schools. :scared:

He mentioned the stats I should aim at to get into medical school(and were a lot lower than what I was expecting...) he also mentioned that about 50% of the application was reserved for Extracurricular and volunteer work.

When the conversation was wrapping up, he mentioned to definitely call him when applying to the school he worked at a second time.

OMG!

Just a Texas medical school.

Thanks man, good luck with your application too. I guess Military Meds tend to stick together.

😀

Duh! I see you are a TX resident..I'm so envious 🙁

"Just" a Texas school? They practically pay you to go there. If I would have had the choice I would have taken any Texas school over any other school in the US.

i wouldnt assume a guarenteed acceptance (i'm sure ur not, just sayin) but it is actually very cool! congrats!

Oh, I'm definitely not!

Just an interesting convo, and a little information other pre-meds can look at. I knew EC's and stuff were a big chunk, but was unaware that they accounted for about 50% of an applicants strength.

@st: One more reason I love Texas. Surfing the web, the school has some of the highest board scores in the country, too. 🙂
