I am so slow at PAT. I'm taking CDP tests and can't finish what so ever so I end up getting a low score. I was wondering if anybody else who has already taken the DAT or even is just getting high CDP practice scores has a strategy to do this. Does anybody mark through a entire section to try and get to the easier sections first? Or does anyone have timed goal breakdowns such as "10 min. for ____, 5 min. for ____, etc.?

I just did a CRACKDAT PAT test and only got to question 60 before the time ran out :-( I'm in the same boat :-( I guess you just have to work 100000x problems to get your brain thinking in that direction ...

don't time yourself for the first 3-4 tests

from the fifth test you should b pretty quick

Thanks. I'll try that, my heart stopped when my time stopped and I still had 30 left to go... :-(

You can increase your speed by cutting down your time on the angle and hole punch sections.

Also, if you cant figure out a question in 2 mins or less, choose an answer, mark, and move on.

This is how I divide my time
Keyhole: 10 mins
TFE: 13 mins
Angles: 5 mins
Keyhole: 7 mins
Cube counting: 10 mins
Pattern folding: 15 mins

Find a system that works for you

Take the first three to four untimed then GO BACK and do those test timed then continue on with the rest of the CDPs untimed.

CDP 1- 18 (68.4%); TIMED-23 (99.8%)
CDP2- 20 (88.5%); TIMED-20 (88.5%)
CDP3- 20 (88.5%); TIMED-22 (97.1%)

Although it didn't improve THAT much I got the time down and was able to move on.

I did the first 6 untimed but timed myself on a separate timer. When I got to test 5 I was doing it in an hour and 5 minutes. I am on test 9 now and I get it done in less than 1 hour. My highest score so far is 21 but I hope within the next few weeks I'm hitting higher numbers.

Thanks. I'll try that, my heart stopped when my time stopped and I still had 30 left to go... :-(

LOL! My first test was similar, I think I left 27 or 30 questions blank. Did the next one un-timed. Did the 3rd with time and got like a 19 and from then on it was all just thinking of strategies and executing them. You don't need to do a million questions to get the pacing down, but you do need to make 100% sure you have your technique down before you start working on the pacing!

I suggest watching Jtrand's video on hole punches, he seriously made holepunching way easier. Went from getting 8-10/15 to 14-15/15. Also helped with time management. My holepunching on the test however was pretty difficult--I think i got them all, but they were tough. You have to get good at doing the easy section fast (not too fast though) so that you have time to do keyholes and pattern folding. like alot of people say practice will be the best investment.
