Achiever is said to be harder, and it may be much harder depending on the person. What happened with Kaplan?

Cwalsh, I'm in the same position, I have been studying for two months and my achiever scores and Kaplan are just pathetic. My date is on the 27th and school starts on the 25th, but I am gonna push it back until early september. My achiver scores are;

Test 1

Bio 17 😡 (mad cause I spent about a month studying for this)
Ochem 13
Gchem 14😱
PAT 13😱
QR 16
RC 20🙄 (i got lucky)

Test 2

Bio 13😕
Ochem 13😕
Gchem 13😕
PAT 16🙂 Better than 13 I suppose
QR 16
RC 19

It seems like the more I study the more I mess up...

My point is though, dont take it if your not ready, why? because number one some school average both your score after you retake. So if you bomb it first time around, even if you get stellar score the second time around your still in a bad position. Second, I think most schools expect you to do amazing your second time around so you have great amount of pressure on you. Don't go in with crossed fingers, the outcome could be disastrous. Anyways thats my two cents.....by the way I hate achiever....AHHHHH cant wait to take the third one and get 10's across the board. 🙁

I know the feeling... I never get higher than a 18 on bio (Topscore).
I first took Kaplan tests, bombed the Bio nad Gchem, but then I went through each question and looked it up, just the way you would've done with Destroyer or any other study material. Even though by a little bit, my score did improve in the consecutive tests. Keep adding to the list of things you didn't know from Destroyer or any other notes and read them before you take the Practice test. I take my DAT on wed too...
Maybe this will help.

If they stil don't go higher than a 15, think about a retake..

First off I want to make it clear that I am NOT trying to be mean!!

Now, achiever is notorious for being much harder than the actual exam. Regardless, if its been 2 months and your getting 13's in the sciences, I suggest that you double check your study methods + materials. 60 days in you should be at least in the upper teens.

PAT on achiever is harder, everyone agrees on that. so expect higher than what you are getting. I think on sciences anywhere from zero to 4 point increase. The guy that got a 27 on the real deal was pulling 20s and 22s on Achiever.

Yeah, on the PAT, I didn't even get to the cube counting and that's the easiest part for me. The hole punch was crazy when compared to Kaplan. I think i could have done a lot better if I would have known to work a little faster.

Doc3232, My kaplan scores ranged around 16 and 17, but the Kaplan test I took as a diagnostic, I took it after 3 weeks of studying. So i thought i was in good shape, but my recent achiever score really brough me back to reality. I know achiever is harder, but if I keep scoring this low on topscore as well then I'm pushing my test back. What worries me is the inconsistency in my scores, they are all over the place, such a wide range of low teens. It's really weird!

Polarmolar, I know your not trying to be mean, in fact I appreciate your advice. The thing is I have used all the material that was recommended on this site, shuams, kaplan bb, destroyer (my quran 😀) and achiever. But I think, like you said, I am using them the wrong way! 🙁
Ayayayay, I need to get cracking, study harder and try to understand the problems instead of memeorizing them I suppose.

I think my mistake is that I just try to learn that one particular problem instead of learning that topic. I think i'm gonna use your method, see if that helps. If i see no changes im pushing my test back.

Someone suggested to me AP Barrons and it goes into a similar amount of detail as Cliffs which is nice. Overall, it is quite good especially if you are bored of Cliffs.
I skimmed it a few times.
I know what you mean, we need more than one presentation of the material. The same repetitive one is annoying and won't help as much.
All these books: Shaums, Cliffs, and Barrons cost about 8 dollars each on amazon 🙂

I am taking my DAT in late August and just took my first acheiver test I two nights ago.

I got:

Bio 16
Ochem 15
Gchem 16
PAT 16
QR 20
RC 21

I had about (~7 to 10 min) before I finished each section. Obviosuly I did not know how to do some of the questions but I finished pretty much every section with plenty of time being left for review. Well I thought the PAT was ridiculous for some reason. I thought I was going to puke...-.-

I seriosuly admire those of you who finish more than 5-6 practice exams before the real thing....wow....4 hrs and 30 min exam at one shot?....made me pretty tired....lol


I am quite lazy and still not have went over destroyer...
I think I have been preparing for the exam for about a month now, but still very lazy....


Well, getting those scores made me pretty upset...I guess I will have to study more...ha ha = D
Well...let's see how much schaum's bio and destroyer helps me....
