Since most Pre-"Pharmers" seem to hate physics, I was wondering which pharmacy course that is as crazy as physics or harder than physics 😀

I think none of the pharmacy courses are comparable to Physics, which is REALLY harder, after Physical Chemistry! So Physics and Chemistry majors can relax 😀

Harder than Physics?

Hmm....

Biochemistry, Pathophysiology, Therapeutics, Med Chem, Pharmacology, Kinetics, that damned class where you learn about journals, I could go on....

Physics is a walk in the park. Memorize a dozen formulas, know how to apply them, and that's it. Pharmacology is memorize 120 pages of crap in 12 point font, anything is fair game on the test.

If you compare courses from graduate school (physics or chemistry major), pharmacy courses are all about memorization! It's not as conceptual as physics in my opinion. So, yes, pharmacy courses are much harder than the undergrad physics, but ridiculous compared to graduate courses!

I hated physics as well, and a good chunk of it was because I could never apply stuff like magnetic/electric fields and the right hand rule to my real life. I liked my courses in pharmacy school because I find health science interesting in general. I think in pharmacy school the most of it is just memorization, however the catch is that it's a lot of material. The one class I really didn't like was the stats class- where they teach you how to critique journals.

If you're talking about math based problem solving, then kinetics is the closest thing to physics. They gave us a 3 page formula sheet during our exams, but you still had to pick out the right equation to use for the patient case. If you have to think about which one to use, then you won't have enough time to finish the exam. There are several variables for time and you need to know which time you are using. It could be the infusion time, the dosing interval, the time between blood samples, etc. You can only use a basic calculator during exams, with log and natural log keys. You'll need both of them to solve equations. Most people did not finish the exam. I finished with 30 seconds to spare, but had no time to go back and check my work. This class is one of the causes of remediation.

I was also going to say Kinetics... It is the one course that has caused our class the most problems and most everyone took a big hit to the ol' GPA as well.

From my experiences and notation of others, people either had no problem with Physics or absolutely struggled with it, which seems to be reflected in this thread.

I had no problems with Chem, but Physics baffled me. My professor didn't just let us get away with memorizing, we actually had to get it, and I couldn't seem to. I'm spatially-challenged though, if you know what I mean...I'm not at all artistic, and am directionally challenged- In my opinion that is all related to why I had a hard time with Physics.

Also, I noticed that those that breezed through physics struggled with Orgo. Just an observation 🙂

Bingo! Although I pretty much hated the coursework, I sailed through physics I & II. I had to work my butt off in Ochem to get an A- the first semester and a B the second. BioChem was a lot easier, though. It was as if everything "clicked." But I'm seriously worried about Med chem in pharm school. I'm pretty sure that it's going to be one of those courses that I have to devote extra study time to.

you're wrong, I've taken these courses back in my country

I thought they were both easy. My hardest undergrad course was microbiology and this damned course on religion that made me want to find and kill Christians for putting my through such suffering.

So you've taken pharmacy courses back "in your country", withdrew, decided to apply to the land of the free and advise people on how your (insert random country) courses were over there.

Congratulations. I heard general chemistry was harder in India than any pharmacy program in the whole entire world!!!

And to PATCMD, what in the hell does my statement that she "has completed no pharmacy courses therefore she should not comment" have to do with me doing physical chemistry? Dear god.

It's like you all get together and try to look as completely stupid as is humanly possible. (class of 2010's).

I'm not not from India
But I can say that people from India are really smart, for ex, the chairman of the Florida board of medicine is from India, unbelievable, huh?
