SO WHO IS READY FOR THIS CYCLE!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The day is getting near ladies and gentlemen. How are you preparing for battle?

I’m going to the ADEA GODental Recruitment Event in Orlando. Hopefully get some good feedback since I am a reapplicant. Retaking my DAT June 14th and proactively studying. Working/Volunteering in a public school system and I’ve signed up to volunteer some at three RAM clinics. I’m meeting with VCU’s assistant dean of admissions in April. Already asking for LORs. Hopefully all of these will be good things to help me get interviews this time around!!!

Goodluck to you! How are you preparing!?

Finishing up my personal statement to give to my LOR writers, taking the DAT June 9, committee interview in early May, working on those volunteer hours and shadowing hours, and looking for gap year opportunities. Overwhelmed at times but I think I'll be fine in the end.

I’m pretty much brushing up my personal statement. I have my LOR’s set to go but I’m just dreading this DAT studying lol. I’ve been studying for about 2 months now so I think I might do another 2 months and take it end of April... beginning of May? Haha. Ive Heard about 3-4 months should be the proper amount of time to study. Do you have any advice?

Feeling overwhelmed is normal, especially for this process that we are all enduring haha, but there is light at the end of the tunnel! Hopefully by this time next year we will be congratulating one another on getting accepted into schools

Haha give me some advice please
I killed science with a 26 TS. Basically just did all of destroyer, bootcamp, and read Cliffs. I didn't do so well on QR but it was almost identical to destroyer. PAT was very similar to BC. Reading was much much easier than bootcamp but bootcamp's difficult will certainly help prepare you. Ended up with a 24 AA and got there by hard work.

Hats off to you. Killer numbers! You’ll make a great dentist one day my friend.

Heck yes!! Keep pushing! Have you taken your DAT?

I think two more months will be plenty! Are you using destroyer or bootcamp? Just make sure you feel comfortable and ready! This will be my third time taking it, and I definitely wasn’t prepared and proactively studying to prepare the last two times. I’m using 2018 Destroyer - I bought the largest bundle and I plan to purchase Bootcamp at the end of March to help with test timing. I’ve also heard Crack the PAT was good, but I made a 20 PAT last time, so I’m not going to buy that.

That is an awesome score!!!! I’m high key struggling with probability and I just can’t seem to improve on it. Do you have any suggestions? I’m using Destroyer right now.

I’m actually using both destroyer and Bootcamp right now. I’ve been using the Crack DAT PAT portion as well and I’ve heard that it’s similar to the questions you get on the DAT, but Bootcamp prepares you better because of the difficulty. How long did it take you to receive your scores?

You get your scores immediately after submitting the test! Which is very nice. I think that you will be prepared in two months for sure. I used Kaplan the first two times and it was expensive and not very resourceful. Goodluck to you 🙂

Lindsey you are awesome! This is your year girl! I believe in you. Around this time next year you better be messaging me with your acceptances lol

Probability was my worst part of qr by far. You just have to read the detailed explanations of destroyer and boot camp. I saw questions that seemed to come from here verbatim on my Dat. If you practice math everyday eventually probability will click. YouTube helped a lot too if there was a math concept I was still stuck on.

Thank you for that! I have a bad habit of putting the areas that I really struggle with on the back burner I tried to watch Khan Academy videos, but still nothing. I’m an algebra tutor, so I’m fine with everything except probability, a few geometry questions, and the new quantitative comparison.

Also remember to take full length practice tests. I wasn’t use to mental fatigue and since qr is the last section I was mentally drained. My biggest regret is not taking any full length tests. Qr is a battle of endurance.

Hahahaha I hope you are right!! Please let me know how you do after your very first DAT . I know you’ll do great and this will be our year for acceptance! I’ll also keep you posted if I find out any mind blowing information at this ADEA event next week!

Right now, I believe my biggest weakness is OChem and GChem. So I’m making my way through the GChem destroyer to try to improve that! How long did you study and what was your study schedule like?

Haha I will definitely keep you posted! And trust me I have a good feeling this will be your year. Great things come to the people who continuously strive for their dreams. If you ever have any questions please let me know, but I’ll probably have more questions for you anyways lol

What are you scoring on Bootcamp right now? I’ve read Bootcamp is a little bit more difficult, so your score will most likely go up a point or two. You are so so positive, I love it!

What state are you a resident of? I’m in Virginia, so obvi VCU is my top choice - UK is a my second. When you apply this summer, apply broadly and somewhere in the range of 8-15 schools if you can afford it! This was my biggest mistake was only applying to five schools. If you need help narrowing down the list or figuring out which schools are out of state friendly, let me know. I bought the ADEA guide last year and it helped me broaden my school choices for this year!

I studied Ferralis, cliffs, and watched all of chad’s videos during my fall semester. Maybe did a couple hours a week. Then started destroyer and BC during winter break and took the DAT right after winter break.

I’m scoring around 19-20 on the sections that I’ve tested so far. I’m also dreading the sciences like you so I’m drilling down as much as I can so I don’t do poorly on those sections. Haha you’re too kind! After all, we are all striving to be doctors and we need to inspire the world around us! I have a great feeling that with your efforts you will shine as a dentist, no doubt in my mind. I live in California so I have a few state schools to apply to but as long as I get one acceptance, I’m running towards that school lol

Keep your head high! Keep practicing until you’re getting the scores you want. You have two more months of practice, and if you score a 20 AA on your first time that’s good enough for a lot of schools! I feel the same way. I just want to go the cheapest route possible
