i have a long stretch of electives & vacay coming up starting from late sept til feb.. i could totally slack off during that time but then again i think i'll actually do some studying and get StepIII out of the way

Hey N-surge, I am taking it in Nov think weekend before thanksgiving, I will start studying after I finish night float this week

I am not really learning step 3 stuff as an intern which is lame, thought i would pick up something, but then again, how many fricken ECG's can I be asked to interpret before I raise my hand proudly and say

ummm Im going into derm, do I have to sit through this lecture?

Whats' an EKG?

Pick up something? Here's some unsolicited suggestions:

1. USMLE World for both parts. Start now!
2. FA for the cases in the back, like reading the STEP 2 CS book cases. Hit this early then review the days before, even the night before day 2. You can get FA for your smart phone as well.

If you want even more, the new Kaplan White Coat Pocket Book may provide your base overview needs. At least check it out. I think it may be the new FA for Step 3, minus the much helpful cases FA provides. I only read some of this because I spent more time reviewing UW instead.

This website for Step 3 Registration can be confusing:

I called, and they said that the 9/3 deadline was for 2010 applications only. If you are taking it in mid-march 2011, then the earliest that you could apply is mid-December 2010. That would be done with the 2011 application.

I am planning to take it at the end of November when I have an easy rotation. Registration apparently takes friggin forever, though. I sent off the initial paperwork at the end of July and still haven't gotten my scheduling permit.

i've been told that UW (2 parts) and kaplan step3 review book by conrad fischer would be sufficient.

but then again i'm looking for a "P", not 260+..

and yes the 9/3 deadline is if you want to take it before 01/2011
