So let's say.. you get your offer of admission from school A and you accept it. Then school B invites you for an interview.

Now if you take the invitation and have the interview at school B, would you have less chance of getting accepted at school B just because school B can see that you already had accepted an offer from another school (namely A)?

I understand this is a subjective matter but I wanna hear what you guys think about it.

I'm debating whether I should just save money & time by not doing the interview or just do it to see the school & their program, etc.

Thanks !

I just made my deposit at school A. But, if one particular "school B" invites me for an interview I will be going. If I get accepted I will have a tough decision to make between my #1 and #2.

In my case it would be a win/win. But like you said its subjective.

Schools know that some applicants will already be accepted by now, so I don't think this would hurt your chances at School B. I would attend the School B interview if you'd rather go to School B than School A. Then, if you get into B, you can attend there and withdraw from A.

I don't think schools know about specific acceptances at other schools until May 1. They know in general that people have been accepted since Dec 1 obviously.

If you really want to go to school A then do it (like if you got in you would definitely go), otherwise save some money.

I'm in the same bind. I'm not sure whether to go to a school I just got an interview at. You just need to decide whether you would attend the school you just got an interview at over the one you are currently in at. If you are content with where you got in, don't worry about going to the interview.

So now an interview means an automatic acceptance or is this a case of wishful thinking?

Uh...no? But if you would rather go to the school you are in, then why would you even attend the interview at the other school?

If I had already bought the airfare and all that stuff then i'd go and tell them: "Oh I've actually already been accepted at another school, but I REALLY wanted to go to this school..." I'll bet that they'll be impressed. :meanie:

I think that's really unprofessional. If you really like the school you will be interviewing at, just be yourself, do your best.

Too many choices often cause problems🙂 If you had only one interview and one acceptance, this question would not be an issue.
Of course save your time and money if you like the current school. The grass always looks better elsewhere but you liked the school that was why you applied in the first place. Do realize that the curriculum is standardized and its not so much which school you go to but what you get out of the school. Patients don't care what school you went to,, they just want a competent caring smile fixer!!!

just decline so the other people that are trying to get in there get a chance since you are already in a program..

I'm sorry, but I really don't understand how that's unprofessional.😕

Horrible advice. Someone shouldn't pass up on a school they want to attend just so other people can get in. If someone deserves a seat in a school, they will get a seat. If not, it's their fault, not the people who worked harder and deserved the seats. Oh and also, at the end of the cycle, he is only going to be taking up 1 seat, so why does it matter to you which seat he gives up (if he gets in where the interview is)?

Listen man, There are people who worked hard that the cards just didn't play out as well as they hoped. I am one of those people. I got a good chance at getting into dental school this year because I was one of 15 out some thousand applicants to get into a masters program geared to dental school. If you got into dental school on your first try that is great and I really am happy for you. But there are tons of people out there hoping for a chance to just get an interview. Now this guy, already accepted an offer to go to a dental school. is about to pay his deposit, yet he has an interview for another school? why did you accept the offer then if you don't know?

Its very hard for someone to understand the want, the hope, that something will come up for them. The fact that he is holding an interview even though he got accepted and accepted the offer of admission already I disagree with. There are so many people that would kill for just an interview to try and get their foot in the door.

if you haven't experienced this then you won't understand where I am coming from. It may have been easier for some but for those who are dying for a chance to show the school who they are and what they can do, not just what looks good on paper, that spot means the world.

You, sir, are out of line. This guy has every right to put a deposit to guarantee admission to dental school. He also has every right to go to HIS interview so if he is accepted there, can choose to go there if he wants. I don't see a point in going to the interview post-acceptance if you would not accept school b's offer of admission over your current but to each his own. I'm in the same situation with Temple and Buffalo, school A and B respectively. And I don't feel at all immoral about what I'm doing.

I think that if you would not attend the school over the one you're already in, you should not go to the interview. It's a waste of time and money.

Also, after you've been accepted to a school, I believe you should withdraw from all the schools you would not attend over that school if they offered you an acceptance. It doesn't make sense for you to stay in an applicant pool if you would not attend over the school you were accepted at. Of course, you should not withdraw from any schools you'd consider attending over the school you were accepted at.

If you worked hard enough, I doubt the cards just "didn't fall right." People who get multiple acceptances work their butts off to get them.

Also, by your logic, if someone gets into the dental school they least want to attend, and then gets an interview for their first one, they should just suck it up and attend the one they don't want to attend so someone who slacked off and doesn't have as good of an application can get that interview instead? Come on, you can't really believe that's fair just because you didn't build as strong of a resume as they did.

Oh, and if that school is someone else's #1, it probably means the world to him/her as well, so why should they give it up to someone that the school didn't think deserved it as much? In the end, they will only be taking up 1 seat, so why does it even matter what he/she does? Worry about your own business and how YOU can get into dental school rather than relying on other people's decisions to help you get in.

Sorry, but getting mad at people who deservedly get interviews is not going to win you over many fans on here. You dug your own hole, it's not other people's responsibility to get you out.

Doc answered your question even before you asked (well, kinda). Maybe the OP really wants to go to school B, but going to the interview does not mean he'll be accepted. So he deposited at school A to make sure he gets into dental school somewhere.

If I get asked something like "what will you do if you're not accepted?" should I tell them honestly that I have been accepted already and then give them a hypothetical answer so that they can get to know more about me, or should I just pretend as if I have not been accepted yet? Is the first option somehow inappropriate, or might it hurt my chances?

I would just be honest, but be professional and respectful.

Wow-terrible post. Jealous-much? If you take up another interview after having been accepted at another school, it doesn't matter and will work out either way. If he gets in the second school, the first person on the waiting list of the first school will get in, and vice versa...What are you talking about????? If the school liked your application, they would have given you an interview. If they did not give you one, then something about your application didn't grab them, or something about it, turned them off. If a school normally gives 200 interviews, they will give 201, if they really like your application. Some schools get at or above 4000 applications...Someone interviewing at a school after having been accepted at another school did NOT hurt your chances of getting an interview, let alone acceptance.

All of my interviews have gone well because I was honest. If you've been accepted and are willing to spend the money and time visiting their school, seems like you could really spin that into an impressive answer about how much you'd like to attend their school. A school would love to have someone qualified, who ACTUALLY wants to go to their school, rather than only because that was the only school that accepted them. That can be your point, in a tactful way. I would even tell them, i put the deposit down and am willing to swallow it to attend my "dream school."
