What specialty was the one that called you before the deadline?? Can you tell me your stats? AMG? IMG?

CONGRATS!!!!

The offers that appear at 12 pm ET are the only offers that will be offered over the whole first round, correct?

It'd be nice if people that got an offer would say the field and their stats for us who are currently having trouble getting interviews even.

SOAPed Anesthesia, DO 230/241, Passed PE (DO equivalent of CS), no failures or red flags, didn't make it through the meat grinder that was EM this year

If your R3 portal says you have no offers, that's it for the round. If it says offers are still being generated then you may still have something.

Got offer and accepted.. Had 6 total interviews with mostly IM and a few family medicine. Got the one I wanted most so I am pretty excited. Its better than had I ranked a program that Interviewed at originally so I did luck up and do better in soap than I would have in regular match cycle.

What field?
Pathology

CONGRATS!!!!

Independent applicant (from US medical school, am a US citizen), Step 1 220s, Step 2 230s, originally matched EM in 2015 but left after 8 months, Honors in about half of my rotations MS3/MS4, strong LORs from what I heard, and the program I matched to trained my advisor/LOR writer and thought very highly of him.

Did anyone soap into a prelim year (surg/med/trans)? And also is it legal to say which state it was on here?

Congratulations! I am happy for you, but I would not recommend your Match strategy for future readers of this thread. It was a high risk (although high reward) method of securing a program.

Less likely. Most places will have made lists, and will extend offers to the best candidate still available that they interviewed.
That's simply sad and disheartening

Just got a call about 11am, and they asked for a different name then mine (meaning she called me thinking I was a different applicant). She sounded confused and then hung up. 🙁

Honest question: does that count as the program initiating contact? Would you be able to call them or have advisors/faculty call that program now?

But then whats the point of updating the lists every single round? Why not just update it after the last round? If PD have made their list complete off phone calls before the first round, then anyone who didnt apply fully to all 45 programs is also at a major loss. I dont believe its less likely. I think what happens after the first round is that all the people who accepted offers are greyed out. If you were a program that had multiple spots and went partially filled with everyone you called and they are all greyed out. Then for the next round they need to speak to more people.

Sure, but it's unlikely that everyone a program spoke to gets an offer in roundn1. It's not impossible, but it's like I said "less likely".

No Offers yet, no expecting much because of IMG status. I am willing to take anything even surgery prelim spot. I know its brutal but i have been in more worse scenario in life and SURVIVED.
I am an IMG no call or email and you? What is the specialty that are you applying for?

I can't do anything besides scroll this forum and check my email for the last 2 days, I have to get homework done for a masters and I cant get through the first sentence ergggggg

It would be nice if someone could set up an open-ended poll question "Which field did you match in?" for all the SOAPers that lucked out to answer on here. That way we can keep track of what positions are filling up and better prepare.

AMG, 235/225/P, didn't match because of bad strategy, won't go more in depth than that because I already got enough people telling me i was a ******* (including myself), and i was kind of expecting to soap
4 gen surg prelim interviews, got contact info for all of them (3 emails, 1 phone number... one interviewer was a resident which I was a little thrown by), followed up as best I could with all of them with extra questions and statements of yes yes yes oh god yes please take me...
2 offers (neither one was the place where I only got a phone number)
Guess I'm going to the east coast and joining all you snow storm suckers (the place I picked actually called me 5 times in total.... 3 attempts for the initial interview (first they called my home, then my cell, but I was driving, then they called home again after I got home) and then this morning they called me twice (once at home and once on my cell) but I was in the shower.... so i called them back and reiterated that i'd be ecstatic to come... I think it worked? Good luck to everyone else here!

tiny contribution to logistics of the SOAP:
238/257/P, repeated 3rd year
Matched advanced to radiology but not first year.
SOAP: applied to 42 surgery prelims. saved a few for next round just in case.
8 phone calls, 3 emails all over the country.
SOAP Round 1: no offers
PD from big program with many spots called at 12:30p to update that they'll pick me up in the second round.

hey so my understanding is that even if we used all 45 in the beginning, apps roll over to the next round if didnt get an offer in R1, which is different from last year's 30, 10, 5 system. But I just can't find that information in NRMP's website!! This is so frustrating. Can anyone confirm??

I think PDs make a list of applicants based on their criteras and the phone interview who they are going to offer the spots in each round.
For example, if they have one spot they probably have 3 applicants on their list.
In the highly unlikely scenario that all three reject then only they are going to call more applicants.
Slim pickings......and disheartening but that's the reality and we got to move on even if we don't match.
Maybe it's for the better and God intended it for us this way maybe for something better which we can't fathom at this stage.

True true,,. Life is not always as it seems

It rolls over,, the program creates a list of preference and send offers based on who is still available. They can not send an offer to the same applicant twice. I think thats how it works
200,230,pass, 200

Yes, the apps roll over.

Thanks, so it seems if I only got one call on Monday and nothing since then, and that program didn't offer a spot, they my chance of getting a spot at other places is very slim as programs already have made the list, right? Then what's the point of however we can use within 45 max limit during the entire SOAP process?? that's so stupid!
