So, I'm doing a Pre-Lim Yr before my REAL residency starts next yr. Should I do any EM reading this yr, or just focus on doing pre-lim junk? Any recommendations?
Drink, be merry and read as little as possible. Interniship sucks period. Don't make it worse by actually studying when you could be sleeping, eating, drinking, spending time with your family (insert favorite past time here).

Yeah, that sounds about right.

i'm in a 2-4. have fun, but I tailored as much of my reading to EM, within the context of maintaining adequate knowledge to manage my patients on the floor, and am glad I did. I mean, between beers.

I read How Soccer Explains the World, A Thinking Fan's Guide to the World Cup, 1776, The Founding Brothers, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, a couple relationship/engagement books, and the Sunday newspaper during my prelim year...

i'll echo the above... i just tried to tailor what medicine reading i did to EM type stuff... intern year is tiring as hell and you'll want to spend your free time doing totally non-medical stuff.

Im in the same boat as you so I thought I would share my thoughts. I am fairly certain that all you really need to do is something I am sure you can't help but do... and that is to think like and EM doc. As your reading Harrison's, or MKSAP, or UptoDate, etc. Read as much as you NEED for IM but always think about what it means to you for the rest of your career. At least that's my plans. I also plan to drink alot and give the majority of my paycheck away at various poker tables so you might wanna take my thoughts with a grain of salt (on a margarita glass!!!) 😀 Good luck.
