From what I understand, the enthalpy of solvation = lattice energy + energy of hydration.

The lattice energy is always positive, and is the energy required to separate the ion lattice, and the energy of hydration is the energy resulting from solvation.

My question is, shouldn't the energy of hydration be always negative (exothermic)?

My source is: http://www.science.uwaterloo.ca/~cchieh/cact/applychem/hydration.html , look at the table in the 'What is the Energy of Hydration' section.
