effective June 19, 2009, carisoprodol is now a Schedule IV controlled substance. Prescriptions for carisoprodol issued on or after June 19, 2009, should be treated as a Schedule IV controlled substance. Prescriptions issued before the effective date should be treated under the previous law. Carisoprodol prescriptions must now be included in electronic transmissions to the Texas Department of Public Safety Prescription Monitoring Program.

I'm not sure why it is not a control in every state. Meprobamate is a metabolite so if you take enough Soma you'll get a buzz similar to Xanax.
