Hello all,
I am currently a Canadian pre-medicine student at a U.S. University (Wayne State University), and I look forward to applying to both Canadian and American medical schools when the time comes (in about a year).
However, recently I have become uneasy about my whole situation. I thought I would ask you guys about it, and maybe you could help me out.
Do you guys think that, by being at a U.S. University, I will be at some disadvantage applying to canadian medical schools? Being a Canadian citizen, I will meet all requirements for many Canadian medical schools, but do you think being at a U.S. institution would hurt me?
I have contacted several Canadian medical schools, and they repedately told me that it doesn't really matter where you do your undergrad, but are they just trying to save face? Is this true?
Also, if I do not get into a Canadian med school, I would have to set my hopes at a U.S. med school. However, what type of problems would I be facing down the line when I try to match to a residency program? Could I go back to Canada? Would I be at a disadvantage there?
If you were in this situation, where would your best bet lie?
I appreciate the advice!
