🙂 Hey all, after reading quite a few threads on here with concerns about Nova, I thought I might be able to help you guys out some. I am a current undergrad at Nova, and have met with Dr. Lippman personally, on quite a few occasions. First off, don't bother emailing or calling Su-Ann, she's really busy and will hardly ever get back to you. Dr. Lippman on the other hand is better about getting back to students. When you call the admissions office at the dental school, don't expect them to have answers to your questions, most of them just work there without having a clue what's going on in the school. The interview is really laid back, be yourself, they can read right through you when you're trying to put up a front. Although Nova might also be a newer dental school, it is really competitive, i have friends that go there, and they said they were up against some stiff competition. Lat year Nova's entering class averaged a 3.62 gpa, and AROUND a 20 on the DAT, according to Dr. Lippman. This year he's expecting it higher. Nova does not put an emphasis on PAT, they hardly even look at it. They also don't put a huge emphasis on whether or not you took labs with your elective sciences, they want to see pre-reqs. Dr. Lippman also wants to hear that you kept your options open and that you applied to other dental schools, this shows him you really want to become a dentist. Well that's all I can think of. Hope it helps, and let me know if you want any more questions answered, I know where Dr. Lippmans office is, and his door is always open. I'll try and help you guys out!

Hey, thanx for the info, that was very informative. high gpa, no emphasis on PAT, and lots of labs? im screwed then 😀.

Aside from high GPA and high AA, do they look for anything else in their ideal applicant?

It's not all about getting high, I mean he emphasized it so we knew what we were up against. Like I said they're really laid back, they want to know you as a person. Show them why you would be a great candidate for their school. Show them how bad you want it (shadowing, volunteering, etc.). Even if they see a slip up in your grades and they ask you for an interview, to them it looks good when someone is able to pick themselves back up and finish strong. Dr. Lippman said it himself, we're all human, noones perfect, and we understand that, so were not only looking for perfect scores, we want to see a personality.

Ya, our class is competitive as hell! Chuck full of gunners.

Nova is all about the money. Just have decent scores and you'll have a chance. They take alot of low scores too.

I don't know if you compared tuition costs, but I did, Nova isn't abnormally high, so I wouldn't go about saying they're all about the money. If they were, then how was there mean GPA, and DAT scores so high? Food for thought.

Do you really think so??

Well Maybe "gunner" is the wrong word. Everyone is really helpful to one another and our class seems pretty unified. But our class averages on our tests are quite a bit higher than the D-2's posted. I hear of people pulling all-nighters before midterm exams. It seems to be an extremely bright bunch that puts in way more study hours than I would ever be willing to match.
