Love Poem
by Richard Brautigan

It's so nice
to wake up in the morning
all alone
and not have to tell somebody
you love them
when you don't love them
any more.

Wow.

I'm sorry, and congratulations.

isn't that poem powerful?

i called off the wedding over a year ago, but when i saw this poem this morning, it rocked my emotional memory. and i was checking out SDN and figured i'd post it . . .

Damn straight.

I've not ecperienced a breakup of a relationship, but I can somewhat imagine the feeling. It's as you say a powerful poem, especially if one can connect with it personally.

I'm an older non-trad, but right after college my boyfriend of about 4 years proposed, and I fully expected to say "yes", but what came out was "I can't." It was a wake-up call. Two years later I met my current husband, who I've now been married to almost four. My first boyfriend and I were great friends, but I'm with the man that I'm still madly in love with and have been blessed to raise a family with. Second daughter was born Dec. 8th.

Good luck to you. You made the hard but right decision.

Kudos. It takes guts...

I know the feeling... I called of an engagment a little less than a year ago for similar reasons... was supposed to get married this July (!!). When friends and family ask me why, I should really just hand them that poem... sometimes, that's really all there is to it.

Q

i've actually found that explaining my reasons for ending the relationship became very easy after a while. "didn't love her anymore" is, for almost everyone i've spoken with, a very acceptable answer and people usually stop asking questions after that.

It Was the Beer
by Panda Bear

It's so nice
to wake up the morning
with unknown fat chick
who is still asleep
Man, was I wasted!
Chew off own arm
So not to wake her...

thank evolution for the wise coyote . . .

but the metaphor is short-sighted: you must chew BOTH arms off . . . one off for the escape, the other off so she can't identify you
