I am the first in my family to go to school for anything past high school. It feels like I have been getting lost in the process at times and I have decided to reach out so that I do not miss my opportunity. So far my school list is:

Thanks for the quick response. Do you think for the most part a lot of those are reaching?

You have a strong app. Make sure when submitting your primary you apply as disadvantaged this will give your app a small boost (you qualify as disadvantaged based on what you've said about your families financial hardship).

Make sure you apply for the AAMC Fee Assistance Program - this will give you 16 free primary applications and waive the cost of just about all your secondaries!

As a URM you are competitive for schools where you are at least as close as possible to their reported 25th percentile MCAT for accepted/matriculants. For reach school you could consider schools where your MCAT is no more than 2pts bellow the schools reported 10th percentile for accepted/matriculants. I'd apply to very few were your MCAT is greater than 2pts bellow their reported 10th percentile.

In addition to Faha's List I'd for sure add:

Drew/UCLA
Case Western

No, you have a very good sGPA, MCAT and a unique background in Business/Accounting. You could even add schools such as Harvard, Columbia and Stanford as reaches.

I was ashamed at first, but a friend of mine convinced me to do the disadvantaged portion at the last minute thankfully.

No reason to be ashamed but it's understandable. Just remember we need people of all backgrounds in medicine. They ask about it for a reason

I felt the same way when I applied. It feels wired checking that box, and many don’t really know that they are actually disadvantaged because it’s all they’ve ever known and it sort of normalizes things.
