I am reapplying to dental schools, so have lot of confusion regarding writing SOP. Some of my knowns say that it should be very small and they have not much time to read everybody's SOP. others say it is most important part for selection so write everything about u in detail, also if i see on internet there r so many lines almost same & they say i shouln't pick them too as they have software & will be knowing that these r copy paste lines. So my ques is should i write small so that they r not bored, or in little detail about myself. Surely, if i look on internet i got good lines to write & if i don't choose then my SOP will be little simple. Also will they come to know that some previous years students submit statement wth little similarity(Ofcourse for some lines which r almost same & some which r always different) if i use those? So wat to do? pls do give me ur honest opinions.

I would say you should be able to put everything in one page. don't use a font that is too small or too hard to read.
Think of the SOP as something that will add to your resume. You don't want to be repetitive. Give the information that cannot be given through your resume.
The letters you find online can be used as an example. You don't need to copy the exact same words...

I would advice u to increase ur toefl score, everything else looks good...al the best !!

SOP should be no longer than 1.5-2 pages.
use font size 12 Arial for ideal size.
there is a diffrerence between SOP and Personal Statement.
Read application requirements carefully.

Personal Statement -
Its explaining you to someone who has never seen u before. A good personal statement should include these aspects-
1) Start from your childhood experiences
2) a person who motivated u during childhood
3) cultural values that defined u and has led to who u are
4) followed by WHY chose dentistry as a profession,
5) your experience in dental school,
6) what u did after u passed out,
7) what are u aiming at in future,
8) where do u see yourself 5yrs from now.

Statement of Purpose
this is tricky, it focuses more on what u want to be in future
For example u should try to convince the admission comittee as to what your Career goals are. No personal stuff is required
Here u can discuss in detail about your awards and accomplishments with little or no reference to your personal aspect

I agree...

One suggestion - don't go on the net for ur SOP... It shuld be abt u..take a break for a day if u have to...think abt what U want outta life and pen it down...
