Hello there SDN, I just got my offical grades and need some sound advice from all the pre med sages out there.
Here's how I stand
(all 3 credits)
Bio 1: A
Bio 2: A
Genetics: AB
Cell Biology: AB
Biology Lab: A
(8)
Chem 1: AB
Chem 2: B
(8)
Organic 1: BC
Organic 2: AB

Statistics A
Calculus (5credit hours) B

Science Gpa=3.43
Cumulative Gpa= 3.75

I have been voulenterring @ a children's hospital since November...have around a little under forty hours
I did an immersion spring break trip through my college to a poor area in the south
Shadowed a peditrican over winter break for a week
-Have a full time job research position lined up for the summer, at the medical school I'm most interested in and my hometown, funded through a grant

Heres my question to everyone, how do I stand right now? I'll take physics next year, and a few more upper level bios. maybe I get all A's, but'll i'll applying with around a 3.5ish science gpa hopefully closer to 3.6

I'm also an upper middle class white dude with not much of an intersting story. my ecs are pretty limited because im either studying and i really don't like campus orgnizations and all that stuff because i feeel like everyone there just does it for the resume. I don't hold any leadership posiitons, I am not an R.A. or anything like that.

the BC in ochem 1 and the B in the 5credit calc class are the killers. How will the med schools see this? I do pretty well in my biology course.

Is it going to come down to the mcat for me? How much will my good cumulative GPA(hopefully 3.80 when I apply) compensate for a lower sci gpa? Do i need to be the leader of some club or president of some orginzation? I really don't see myself having the time to do something that like and maintain my grades. I'm not trying to go to a d.o. school and so if I cant cut it for M.D. then medicine isnt for me and I'll try something different. Am I gonna be looking at waiting till after my senior year to apply? ( also one other thing no duis or criminal record)
So what do you all think? Drop your knowledge on me! Thanks, and good luck to everyone who still has finals

AB = ?
BC = ?

Speaking on your numbers.. your looking ok. I think you should try to get your science gpa up a little. Overall your looking fine, keep up the volunteering and research. Consider some non-medical volunteering as well.

a/b means 3.5
b/c means 2.5

Would you suggest taking 3 science coruses in the fall. Physics physiology and biochem? To be honest theres little chance I could get an A in all three. Taking physics and physiology (both 4 credits) along with a pretty easy 4 credit spanish intro class, an ethics class, and another easy elective is my current plan. i feel like this gives me the best shot to make A's or at least A/bs in physics and physiology. If I throw Biochem in the mix and drop one of those electives, I hurt my chacnes of making A's but maybe show I can handle a tougher courseload. looking to apply to schools like loyola, slu, creighton, midwestern state schools
