Hey guys, just wondering about my course load for sophomore year and need some advice or suggestions of what to take or not to take. Currently this is what I have picked out.

Organic Chemistry I w/ Lab - 4 credits
Physics I w/ Lab - 4 credits
Psychology - 3 credits
GE Course - 3 credits
Maybe a language???? - 3 credits? (Need help here)

Looking to take MCAT as soon as possible.

Thank you!

Save the Foreign Language for your senior year if you need it to graduate. Maybe put in another GE class or an English class in place of the FL. Or Sociology. Psych is easy and Orgo and Physics together should be manageable. I would recommend algebra based physics. Also keep in mind the upper div bio you will probably need (1 semester should be sufficient). Shoot for a spring of your junior year MCAT. You should have taken the vast majority of your pre-reqs by then or finishing them up enough so you can self study the rest.

Thank you for the reply. I’ve gotten my English out of the way the way in High school, I took a college course. I do need three semesters of foreign language to graduate.. stupid I know. What would you say about taking foreign languages over the summer online or at a CC?

Foreign languages over the summer at your home university should be fine, and I would venture to say the same for a CC but I am not certain.

If you are referring to AP credit or CC with regards to english, many schools don't accept it as opposed to courses taught at your home institution. I would encourage you to apply with the following prerequisite courses, as this is sort of what I am doing, more or less:

1 year of General Chemistry
1 year of Organic Chemistry
1 year of General/Intro Biology
1 year of English (shoot for atleast 1 writing intensive course)
1 year of general physics (Algebra based)
1 semester of Psychology
1 semester of Sociology
1 semester of Statistics (you may need calc for some schools however you wont for most)
1 semester of an upper division bio (maybe 2 semesters, you should be fine with 1 though)
1 semester of biochemistry (this is sometimes a requirement but you may be able to get by without it, I would probably take it anyway as it can only help on the MCAT)

I believe that is a fairly comprehensive list of recommended pre-reqs. These should all be taken during the spring or fall semester at your home undergraduate institution. I hope this helps. I can clarify anything you need help with.

Thanks again! So the English was not an AP but and actual college course I took at my high school but with a college level professor. I live in Maine but my college is in California, so summer classes aren’t exactly an option which I why I’m looking at foreign language at a local CC in Maine.

I’m planning on getting Orgo 1&2 + physics 1&2 done sophomore year and taking my Biochemistry 1&2 classes done junior year. I’m a Biochemistry major so I have to anyway.

I don’t think my college even offers algebra based physics to start, so it’s going to be calculus based for both classes. That being said, I’ve taken calculus 1&2 already so I should be fine for that.

All that being said does this class schedule be fine;
O chem
Physics
Psych
GE
GE

I see, my apologies. So, yes, you should be set for this upcoming fall semester. I think you should be fine Foreign Language wise with CC credits, maybe someone else could chime in to confirm.

I usually recommend algebra based physics for people who aren't familliar or comfortable with calc (i.e. myself) but you have a solid background in it so you should be fine.

Just keep planning ahead with your courses and keep in mind what you need and you should be fine. I hope this helped

Good luck!
