I searched around and did not see any mentions about recommendations from a community college.

I just transferred to a university and was wondering. For the letter of recommendation from a professor, do they want only letters from a university? I'm thinking of getting one from a community college if there is no harm in that.

And when do you start ask for the letter? When its needed or whenever? I don't want to ask after the professor forgets me =/.

A letter of recommendation from a college prof, especially one without a Ph.D. would be at least better than one from a high school teacher with or without a Ph.D.

Yes letters from community college professors are fine. You should research about the Health Professions Adviory Committee at your schoolso that you can get a committee letter. They will give you evaulation forms that you can give to your professors and then you can ask a professor to write the letter when ever you want and then the committee will put it in your file until you are ready to apply.

Thanks for the replies; I'll ask him for one then. I'm not applying anytime soon, but should I go get ask for the letter now? Or should I wait a while and then ask him?

Banking your lor may not help you much. Should the ds call the prof and ask additional info, the originator may not remember who the heck you are. At best, why not just put him on notice that you may need an lor in the future?

sounds good. Thanks a lot for the advice!
