Ok, I will apologize in advance for posting this, I know the board is cluttered with these, but I am not sure what to do as far as how many schools to apply to. Feel free tostop reading if you are tired of these. I am at the risk of being a jerk and sounding like someone who is stroking their ego (but I surely am not). I just need some advice.

So I have a 3.85 BCPM and a 42 MCAT, with decent ECs and good LOR. And basically my question is whether I can drop any schools of my list to save some cash. I have been reading around the boards, and I am getting paranoid that if I don't apply to 20 schools, especially with many top schools, I could risk not getting in anywhere. Here is my list:

Einstein
BU
Case
Columbia
Harvard
Chicago - Loyola
Mount Sinai
NYU
Northwestern
Ohio State
Tufts
U Chicago
U Cincinnati
U Connecticut
U Penn
Cornell
Yale

Are there any I could drop, and are there any that I have missed that I should add? I am limited geographically to east of Chicago and in the Northeast (I am an Ohio resident). Thanks for any advice.

Have you considered the Carribean? That might be a good alternative considering your stats.

LATERS, DOOOOOD.

You wont get in anywhere since you went down from 43 to 42 on the MCAT

definition of a troll

troll
An outrageous message posted to a newsgroup or mailing list or message board to bait people to answer. Trolling is a form of harassment that can take over a discussion. Well meaning defenders can create chaos by responding to trolls. The best response is to ignore it.

Also, the person who posts such messages.

Are there any schools on your list that you are only kind of interested in? I guess here's how I think about it: what if you were only accepted to your state school(s) and one other school. Would you attend that one other school over your state schools? If so, then keep it on the list. If not, then what's the point of applying there? You have outstanding stats, so it's highly unlikely that you won't get into your state schools. That being said, if you really want to save money, you could consider only applying to one Ohio school--whichever one is your favorite--since you're pretty much guaranteed to get in; after that, maybe you could look over the rest of your list and re-evaluate why you're interested in each school. I don't think you have too much to worry about, though. 🙄

I don't believe these claims of 42...there are only several a year, and from what I've heard, there has never been a 43 past 91. Isn't it listed as .000000 percent or something. With a score like that you can scribbile your name on a post it and schools would let you in...hell, they probably are recruiting you. In the OP's defense though, he does offer good advice now and then.

There's a poster on SDN who got a 43 this year...can't remember her (?) name off the top of my head, but she sent a screenshot of her scores to the disbelievers, and apparently it was legit. So, I'm giving OP the benefit of the doubt. If he's a troll, oh well, he got me.

I don't buy the 42 either, but if that is the case, you should have no trouble getting in to any of the schools on your list. Good Luck

Oh christ...I don't believe that for a minute. Two words: Adobe Photoshop. its easy to swap a 4 in for a 33...and change the numbers. I do not believe it is possible. Show me a news article, because that would get coverage. Most people will get a story written about them at 40+ because that is .000 percent

Theres something called adobe photoshop. I know someone who used it to trick people that he got a 45 on his mcat. The sad part is some people actually believed him.

Someone call the AAMC pretending to be a reporter....see if anyone has had a 43, I read in one of those 41 articles no one has done better than 42.

Beat me to it. Agree with the great minds though. 👍

Whether or not people have received 42/43s, the OP is obviously a troll, since this is the second thread he's tried to start like this, one with a 3.85/42 and one with a 4.0 (should be higher, no A+s)/43. Someone posted the link above.

At least be consistent if you want people to believe your bs.

No, its not true that there have been no 43 since 1991. A friend of mine got a 43 last year - 15V, 15B, 13P.
Scores above 40 are rare, but its not like they dont happen.

And as for the OP, if his stats are real, than I would drop Tufts, BU, and U of Chicago.

I agree SOD, I just wanted to make sure I understood what was being said about me. No worries here.

I assume the ND in his name stands for Notre Dame, These people are notoriously insecure douchebags.

You should have gone to Haaaarvard

Just stop, it's getting worse

So I found the person I was talking about with the 43...SDN name is lorelei. Here's the link to the thread where I saw her score:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=1550802#post1550802

I think this thread also has the posts from the other SDN people who saw her score report.

And, I realize there is such a thing as Adobe Photoshop! 😛 Sheesh! I'd rather be gullible about people's posts than automatically deride them for being trolls if they happen to post outstanding scores--regardless of whether the OP was a troll or not! 🙄

georgebush43, you are making a bigger ***** out of yourself than you are of the real Bush. (not an easy task)

thats why Im here. this idiot is ruining our country. i repent everyday for voting for him in 2000

*sigh* I knew that I probably would not be able to get a straight response. THanks for all those, though, that had some constructive criticism. But I can't help but respond to the accusations made in this thread.

1)Its true I started a thread the other day with ridiculous stats. That was a joke, and I said so in the thread. I abandoned it quickly after people made it very clear that I was not funny.

2)I am not a troll. I have 50+ posts, and the vast majority are normal discussion...why would I take the time to make constructive comments if I was only going to troll?

3)My stats are real. I am sorry if you don't believe I got a 42. Its my score, and I am obviously very happy with it. I wish there was a way to prove it, but really tere is no way someone or another will not question. And about the percentiles, AAMC only rounds to the tenths decimal. This means that if the percentile is .04 or lower, its going to be rounded to zero. .04% is around 11 people. That means that there could be nearly 45 people that are not reflected in the percentiles. So just because it says 0.0%, it does not mean that it means 0 individuals.

Well, I am still looking for contructive advice, or everyone can continue to flame me. I figure it will be the latter.

Just a finicky percentiles question - if you're in the top 0.04%, that means that only 0.04% of the entire population scored as well or better than you, right? 😕 so if N=~27000, that means 11 people scored as well or better than you... not 45 people... or am I smoking pot here? I've always been a bit confused about percentiles. It's the sort of thing that keeps me up at night 😎

so FaytlND, I suspect you're among the top dozen or so test-takers during that administration of the test. congrats 👍

Thanks, leechy. Right, it comes out to about 11, but for the sake of argument I assumed that maybe there are 11 people who got 42, 43, 44, 45 since all of those list 0.0%. 44 and 45 are unlikely, but for the sake of explanation I threw it in there.

Show me the money, or a newspaper article about you...constructive advice, don't eat yellow snow!

Oh, and stats boy, it could be .00 or .03...which means less people, there is no way 45 people got a 42. I read about this somewhere damn it...I wish I could find it

I don't know how I would have a newspaper article written about me, or I would show it to you. And what would you like to see? I assume that anything I show you you can claim has been photoshopped.

And thanks for the yellow snow comment, I will take that to heart.

Why U of C?

Did you confuse it with U of Illinois at Chicago?

limit to one ohio school
drop uconn... it's in the middle of no where and no one in their right mind wants to be there
bu won't take you because yes, your scores are high enough that they won't believe that you might attend- ditto with tufts if that was on your list
why not just stop with northwestern and uchicago?

and really... spend thirty dollars now and once you get in someplace you'd like to go.. just don't go interview

God damn... Lay off of him. Scoring a 42 is not equivalent to curing cancer - normal individuals do it every year. There is so much jealousy in this forum that my screen is turning green!
