i'm an msIII with a 213 step 1 and mostly passes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year. i do not really have a geographic preference for residency. what nationally prestigious programs should i NOT bother applying to? also, what are my odds at the different programs in texas? utmb, baylor, southwestern, scott and white, tech, houston, san antonio, etc. etc.

apply wherever you want to go. take step 2 early if you can improve you should have a good shot

Read the FAQs at the top of the forum. They are very true.

Apply to programs that appeal to you (for whatever reason)...don't try to limit yourself just because you don't have the world's absolute best board scores and grades. I'm certainly not the "best and brightest" in my med school class (certainly not AOA), but I was pleasantly surprised at the number AND caliber of schools that offered me interviews (some of these were schools that my school's PD told me would be a "stretch").

One caveat--make sure that you do have SOME "safety" schools in your application profile--SOME schools that are not as competitive as the big-name programs. Having said that, though, if you really want to try to get into BID, UCSF, [insert name of your favorite Top 10 program here], etc, etc, go for it.
