So recently I decided to pursue applying into PT school after months of not being sure about it. My main reason is my GRE scores.....and plus I wanted to apply to schools in the Chicago area since I live in the city. I know a few schools have deadlines already passed but Midwestern and Rosalind Franklin are still available. Any one of you who maybe have gotten into these schools particularly think I should continue to apply or just wait out til next year? Here's what I got:

BS in Athletic Training
Science GPA: 3.64
Overall GPA: 3.70
GRE: 150v, 144q

Since graduating and becoming an ATC, I have worked full time for 6 months in an outpatient PT clinic doing just about everything except the initial evals (I did all the modalities, manual therapy, etc and rehab progressions as well as re-evaluations for my own patients). Currently I work in the occupational setting by providing first aid care and work recommendations to industrial workers in a variety of places. I have my CEAS as well (certified ergonomic assessment specialist I) where I do full on ergonomic assessments of job tasks to reduce risk of injury. Not to mention my clinical rotations in athletic training (I did a year with the Red Sox at their spring training location). Don't know the hours but of hands-on sports medicine/rehab related experience its easily about 3,000 maybe.

I just don't wanna waste the money if its too far into the game and if my GRE scores are not competitive enough. I feel my experience and knowledge alone is more than enough but I just thought I ask.

Thanks!

Have you looked into the minimum GRE scores for the schools you want to apply to? If you meet the minimums, then I think it's worth applying. Some schools don't even consider GRE scores, or will only look at one section of the GRE. It would be worth finding out what your schools are looking for before deciding whether or not it's worth applying.

PTCAS pages for these schools don't show minimum GRE requirements. But Franklin's site says "There is no minimum score for the GRE requirement. Successful candidates typically have scores in the 50th percentile and Analytical writing scores above 4.0. "

Physical Therapy in Downers Grove shows acceptance GRE averages of: V:43%, Q:53% and AW: 49%

A 144Q is 20th percentile. I know Midwestern Glendale also says they do 'rolling admissions' but I think they wait quite a while before they start to fill most seats. Franklin doesn't have rolling. If I were you I'd retake GRE and apply at least to Franklin this cycle.

Thanks for the input! I just don't wanna leave the area so it's tough. I know I have a tough decision which is why I asked. I see the reason using the GRE as an admission tool but I don't see it testing my ability to be a clinician. Oh well....but thanks again.

if you ask me, your GPA's are great, they are higher than the average GPA for many PT programs (roughly 3.5), and this might offset a lower GRE. Your verbal score is not bad, very close to the 50th percentile. The math is low, but other parts of your application (GRE's, experience ect) seem really good. If the rest of the parts of your application are strong (extracurriculars, essay, LORS), I would go ahead and apply this year if I were you. Everyone has at least one or more areas of the application that they could improve even more on, so I wouldn't let your GRE prevent you from applying this cycle.

I'm surprised nobody has accused you of self-aggrandizement. Your GPA and GRE scores aren't the best, but your experience and background make up for it. My background wasn't stellar but I got into a good school. Yes, apply, and with confidence too. Apply to at least five schools.

I don't know why you would be worried. You have a great gpa and prereq gpa. You can look around and see that your raw numbers are better than 75% of us here.

My only advice would be to study for the gre and give it another go.

You will get in somewhere, no matter what

I'm sorry I wasn't trying to do that, I just wanted to emphasize what I've done and if it was enough to apply in the eyes of those on the forum. Im not about to throw money at an application that im not certain on. I actually am very insecure about my GRE which is why I'm only attempting now to apply. Also I'm limited to only schools in the Chicago area due to my living situation. But I appreciate the responses! I feel a little more confident in making a decision.

I myself wasn't accusing you, but others on this board have accused applicants of seeking approval and approbation. I think your concerns are legitimate, and I think your chances are good. Sorry for the miscommunication.
