Had an interview last week and when answering the why medicine question, everything was going well in the beginning. I was answering some follow up questions and for some odd reason I said that medicine was what I was born to do and is in the stars for me. I didn't mean for it to sound arrogant or desperate but I just kind of blurted it out and the interview chuckled. Then I chuckled and we moved on. What do you guys think?

Kidding, but who knows? Hopefully he has a sense of humor, or didn't think twice about it, or is empathetic to the fact that it may have been a silly goof.

I would start look into Caribbean Schools as a backup right now... Jks. I dont think it's that big of a deal.

Without having been there, it's really hard to assess how this was received. But if an interviewee said this to me and wasn't obviously joking, I'd reject them on the spot.

Teaching moment: it's important to have a filter between mouth and brain.

I hope it came off as a silly goof. I felt that everything else was fine except that one slip up. I still can't believe that came out of my mouth.

It happens. I am generally a very concise person. I found myself getting to the point of rambling (was having a really good time in one interview) and had to check myself.

I have to agree with Goro on this. I am much more likely to severely penalize an applicant who comes off as arrogant, entitled and "better than thou" that for most any other reason. I would also agree with Goro that you cant tell from how it all really went down in the moment. So take a breath and move on to the next thing

Yeah I probably should stop thinking about it. I've been kinda beating myself up for it the past few days, but I have another interview coming up so I will just make sure I don't make that mistake again.

Everyone says things they regret. Just move on.

But I'm guessing that if an interviewer laughs in disdain, it means you f'd up.

Ask your next interviewer their opinion on the matter . Lol jk please dont

It seemed like a friendly, giggly laugh than a you are so stupid laugh, but who knows what he was thinking.

Chillax. There's nothing you can do, just learn from it and do it better on next time.
