I am doing some sort of Rhetorical paper, and I have been given the opportunity to decide what topic. I must present a nine page paper about the topic. I want to write about why CRNA's should not be allowed to practice independently. I was wondering if anyone wouldn't mind sharing some very helpful articles that I could use as a source. I have not found much on google besides a couple of articles, which would only give me three pages at the most.

Good luck on this one, kid🙄

LOL,

Do we have yet another uppity nurse here to stir the pot?

It's simple: they ain't docs, and it's a doc's job they want.

Good enough for you?

I'm a premed student searching for sources to use for the argument of nurses fighting to practice independently (which I am against, if you couldn't tell in my first post). I'm not on the CRNA's side on this rhetorical paper. If fear is the only thing that is fueling this argument, maybe I should find another topic? Though, this was the only topic I could think of that involved medicine. Which is what I am wanting to write about.

Just reviewed your post history....

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....

Seems as though you are misrepresenting yourself.

Cant figure out whether youre just starting college, finishing college, applying to residency.

And with your initial post on this thread, I'll bet its none of the above. sounds like youre an imposter looking to stir the pot here.

You're right i'm neither of those...I haven't just started college nor finished. I've been attending UTC and will be a Sophmore This Fall. I'm getting rid of my last English class (Rhetoric and Composition 2) 1PM Summer term. (this will be my 6 hours of English, which is a medicine prerequisite) i'm a Biochemistry major. I'm not giving out anything more than that over the internet publicly. If you're that skeptical about my identity, jet, i'll pm you and show my biochem major RAP sheet (what they call it here). Would that clear things up?

All I am seeking are articles that will aid me in my stance on this debate. So far I have articles relating to nurse/physician relationships, which do not serve me very well.

Believe me, i'm not trying to start trouble. I would just like some sources for my English 122 paper.

Choose another topic bro.....There are a paucity of studies directly comparing anesthesiologist vs. CRNAs. If you are so inclined, look up the Silber and Pine studies. Again, I'd choose another topic since you'll never get anywhere near the 9 pages you need.

I'd ditch the CRNA paper for a variety of reasons, lacking good sources being one of them. An interesting topic to be addressed would be the rise of the 'Minute Clinic' for CVS and other similar clinics in Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc. There have been some good editorials in the Boston Globe about this that should all be online, as well as other sources. It would make a nice paper.

"If fear is the only thing that is fueling this argument, maybe I should find another topic?"

In other words, we must be a punch of ******* letting "fear" drive us into a state of disarray?

LOL, hello NURSE.

ugh

you are exactly the problem Noy made the post about. Cant you read?

Excuse me, Cremey?

The implication is that the concern is entirely one of panic, not a rational dislike of having undertrained, mouthy clowns horning in on one's biz.

By the way, what kind of crap name is CremeSickle, anyway? Are you a dude who enjoys slurping on them or what?

ecCA

Actually, i apologise, i misread what you wrote. My bad.

Sorry again!

All I am seeking are articles that will aid me in my stance on this debate.

check the asa website where you can do an extensive search in order to formulate a stance:

http://www.asahq.org/

there are no concrete "one is better than the other" position papers because this is an incredibly difficult position to argue, especially since over 90% of the anesthetics currently delivered in the U.S. involve an anesthesiologists in some way, shape, or form. the N to prove otherwise is very small.

having said all that, i would say there are certainly a small cohort of nurse anesthetists who operate at a much higher level than their brethren, and rival some attendings capabilities. this does not mean we should grant indepedent practice to ALL crna's based on the exceptional abilities of a small minority of them. the problem is the "small minority" is making all the noise.
