All of my life I have been facinated with Space and Medicine, and never thought that those two fields would go together until I read an article and listened to a lecture. Now I am very curious about this particular field.

I am starting Pharmacy School in the Fall of 2017 (already been accepted and paid to reserve my seat). Does anyone know of any way I could get in a lab to do research and/or shadow a Space Medicine Pharmacist (or any health care professional for that matter...)? I have been looking for resources and contacts to talk to about possibly getting in somewhere, does anyone know anything about this? I know there is one with NASA and I have been emailing her. Now I am just waiting on a response.

Anyone have any tips? Anything would help! :)

I also have research underneath my belt with Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus, I know it's in Microbiology and Immunology based, but it shows that I am capable of handling research.

There's a real small list of aerospace pharmacists in the civil service. If it's Tina or Elly, yeah, they are one of a kind. Elly is former Air Force (ret. Col) and Tina is her protégé. I don't even think Tina works in civil service anymore due to the way NASA works.

Do you know how I could get into contact with "Elly"? I've already tried contacting Dr. Tina Bayuse.

#1 - Have you read the myriad of cautionary statements on here about job market saturation? If so, you have been warned.

#2 - Space pharmacists are probably about as necessary as cruise ship pharmacists. They were once a thing, but have been pretty much completely replaced by provider dispensing. The number of patients is too small to require someone to exclusively dispense medications.

What about demand for a cruise ship/ space ship pharmacists who can provide MTM under the provider status?

Should increase demand by 300-400%.

What's 0 + 0 * 400% = ?

I'm interested in practicing cetelogical pharmacy, does anyone know if there's a program out there for it? I really think I could make a difference for all the whales out there.

I think I'd rather just become an astronaut. A PharmD would qualify you to apply to NASA's astronaut candidate program, but they tend to hire airforce test pilots and Harvard educated physicians. I just want to get on that damn space station.

Reports from recent grads is that the pharmacist market in Mars and Venus are completely saturated, and that Jupiter is filling up quick.

If you'd be willing to move to Uranus or Neptune, it's pretty easy to land a job, but with the recent labor projections, even those will be full by 2025.

Those sorts of jobs are ones that you have to be in the right place at the right time. Yes, there are actually marine biology pharmacists (three to my knowledge and all uniformed in Woods Hole and San Diego) in the Navy that apparently take care of dolphins. There are pharmacists in USAID-Department of State who spend their time coordinating humanitarian aid (at least 15-20 based on the last two Combined Federal meetings). There's pharmacists on the field whenever there are real epidemics in the EIS. There are actually pharmacists who have looser morals than many of us do and help in enhanced interrogations (and at least one of the alleged ones is USPHS as opposed to the normal military). Within the VA's Pacific Region (VISN 21), there is a pharmacist who flies to Guam, the Marianas, Samoa, and Maui at least monthly to oversee their stock replenishments and with the physician she accompanies, is the most traveled person in the government federalwide. I'm sure there's pharmacists who work in the intelligence logistics community whose job is to oversee drug smuggling into places that America's enemies wouldn't care for. It's not something you directly train for rather that you work into opportunities. Many of them are occupational hobbies as opposed to full career paths. It's like the health-fair pharmacists at retail, you get to be that once a season, but the rest of the time you're a plain retail pharmacist. There may be the one-off exception where a chain hires a pharmacist full-time to manage their health fairs across an area, but it's not the norm even within that niche. But if you really like working in a niche, there are ways to increase your odds and that's usually by working close with someone whose niche you eventually want.

UTMB (Galveston, TX) has an aerospace medicine focus available to its med students. You might want to explore their website

None, absolutely none. Lookup the amount graduating now vs 10 years ago. There is no need, the BLS predicts a 3% growth in jobs, putting total jobs around 300k jobs total by 2025, with 295k currently practicing. About 15k students (and climbing) graduate yearly. There is a prediction saying that 25k+ SURPLUS pharmacists will be looking for employment in the next few years. NO field within pharmacy is in need.

That's actually where you are wrong. The machine won't explain to the astronauts the importance, directions, and usefulness of the medications my friend. Job saturation where I'm from doesn't apply to me.

Provider dispensing doesn't mean a robot.

There's just one dominant, space pharmacist market. It's already a home for many pharmacists, and soon to be home to more. It's not in Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Mercury... no it's...

the black hole.

I actually did get an email that was specifically recruiting pharmacists to be Uber drivers.

Sent from my SM-N910V using SDN mobile

Any particular reason why? Do you still have it? If you do, I could PM you my e-mail address and have you send it to me. I have no idesire to do Uber; just curious about this.

I do remember some news stories a couple years ago about a doctor who took an Uber (the first time I heard of Uber, BTW) who had Ebola and didn't know it yet, and NYC went into an unnecessary panic. That's the closest comparison I can think of, and I know it's not a good one.

Probably was just recruiting Uber drivers in general, but here is the subject of the email:
