After doing a search I couldn't find a recent thread (last one was about a year ago) specifically dedicated to this topic so I decided to start a new one..

Me and a couple friends were considering doing a spanish immersion program in Costa Rica.. any suggestions on programs that are good? I've found several different programs online and in other threads but I was interested in seeing if anyone had been on any of these programs recently..

Thanks!

Hey, same here! I'm considering a program called "Cela language school". http://cela-ve.com/

Please tell me about any programs you find out about, as my dad doesn't want me to go to Cela because it is on an island that is part of Venezuela.

I used these people:

www.ecela.com

They were an excellent, high quality program, and since their schools were all over it gave me a chance to se a lot of South America without interupting my Spanish education.

Thanks, that school sounds more credible than the mom and pop shop on Margarita Island. I think I know where I'm going this summer!

I kinda had my heart set on Costa Rica.. it looks like that program is strictly South America..

any other suggestions?

I would suggest looking at AmeriSpan.com for programs in Costa Rica that interest you. Their SALUD programs combine both Spanish classes and medical observation. Alternatively, COINED in Costa Rica has a well-established medical volunteering/observation program in the San Jose area. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I highly recommend doing this. Not just because Spanish is useful but because you will have the time of your life. I met the coolest people in my travels abroad. Spending months in a place with a slower pace changed my perspective on everything. I had lots of firsts (and some second and thirds too 😀 (much wilder than you imagine I assure you)).

I had so much fun abroad that whenever I have a bad day all I do is close my eyes and remember what it was like living there during my year off... instant mood lifter.

Apparently it's only $350/month for room and full board in Honduras...

What program did you go through?

I studied Spanish here for a month after graduating from high school and I loved it. They had students from all parts of the world and the staff and facilities were awesome. I would study Spanish Monday to Thurs and then Friday to Sunday we would travel to different parts of Costa Rica to go to the beaches, volcanoes, and rivers- this place was really great if youre looking to be immersed in Spanish language and enjoy Costa Rican culture.

Bumping for more suggestions 🙂

Im actually in ECELA-Mendoza as we speak and I think its a quality program. I also used ECELA-Cusco 4 years ago for 9 weeks prior to starting medical school and it was awesome. Of the two, I would recommend Cusco if you want a bit more adventure (Peru is really easy to get around and lots to see) as Mendoza is a bit more laid back (its all wine and steak here).

Also, he doesn't know this, but Perrotfish's prior posts were actually the reason I decided to use ECELA in the first place.
