I'm an incoming med student thinking about the future. I unfortunately have rather limited clinical experience, just a little bit of volunteering and lots of research but no shadowing.
One of my main priorities when I think about my future career will be work/life balance. I want to have lots of time for a small family and hobbies. I hope I don't sound lazy or pretentious. I'm very fortunate to be able to attend med school without taking any loans and I don't have any from undergrad either, so I would be satisfied with a rather modest income.
Which specialties allow one to set their own working hours? I'm thinking about different career paths (practicing physician, research, etc...). This can change of course but I'm particularly attracted by Hematology-Oncology, EM, and Neurology. Which specialties, including but not limited to these three allow possible part-time work? Besides EM, which physicians can do shift work and choose their shifts?
